I think all of us, including the thread starter realizes the dumbass part. However, it seems most of us recall being young and stupid. As much of a goodie goodie as I was as a teenager, I still did some pretty stupid shit in my parents cars and my own. This thread has brought back a lot of memories. Of course, it also reminds me of why I don't let either brother borrow my cars (oh that poor 86 200sx turbo, rip little nissan) |

well, yeah or the right size rock in a yard might work, or a chunk of wood, etc even some extra height off the ground will help not that I've ever tried such a thing of course |

I told my parents already...I told my dad yesterday. Or was it the day before. I don't remember lol. I showed him the pictures. No more back woods shenanigans for me. I know it was stupid with like, 20/40 hindsight. And I'm not in a fkin minivan anymore. I got downgraded to my BMX bike with a broken freecoaster. And sorry about the bragging tone I gave in the first post. I was pumped full of adrenaline when I wrote that.

So, no jack to change a flat tire and no cinder block near by to put underneath (so the car doesn't fall on you)? And you don't have any friends 9Or friends with fathers) with jacks or jackstands? Don Kennedy |
In highschool I also took my car for a short offroading experiment. After bouncing through a few ditches, knocking down some smaller trees, and bending a tie rod I finally stopped.
This was in my car, that I paid for. I still called up my dad, and told him what I had done. The trust you gain in your parents, and the maturity it shows to own up to your mistakes can really have profound affect on your parents trust in you. My dad wasn't exactly happy, but he still helped me straighten out the tie rod and remove the grass and rocks from the tire bead. It was a good experience, one that needed to happen. I no longer drive that fast on gravel roads (or any roads for that matter), even ones that I know very well (like the one I went off on). |

I took my mom's Scirocco and jumped a crooked country culvert (road goes up over culvert) and knocked the front suspension completely out of whack (steering wheel off by about 15 degrees) and told her I hit a pothole.
Same Scirocco that I jumped multiple times in a straight line (just like the ad) at ages 14 and 15 when snuck out of the driveway in middle of the night and riding with best friend Bill, another country boy. Gee, I wonder where the rally fever came from? As fate would have it, ultimately the Scirocco became mine. "Talk about drugs. Hey Kid, tell Billy to bite a big one.
You know you fucked up. You admit you fucked up, you broadcasted to the world you fucked up.. That ain't the question or any reason why anybody, especially any of us'n goons here, should be scolding you for car mayhem.. But seriously, think a bit, slow down and think.. What is inside your head that you would have to ask a buncha lunatics---and most here are (heh, heh, heh <perv laugh) "not like the others"---what you should do? Do you see what I'm poking around? You banged the POS thing into some dirt while having some very common teen-age fun..(I know where Potsdam is cause one of our lurkers here Graham Cullen aka Graminal from Nude Hampster who I knew from his last year in High School went to some college in town.. And I love maps so I'd looked it up. So Knowing where and what it is for a town, what are you supposed to do? OK. (by the way, look about 28-30miles to the South and slightly East of town....heh hehe heh <----sick perv laugh again.) The things is, when we fuck up there can be of lasting good depending on how we craft the narrative, how we choose the words to describe the story which we tell to others and eventually ourselves.. those things, those words we choose to use can last and be influential long after that POS minivan is crushed, and sent to Japan melted into steel in time for a surprise 100 Year Anniversay Attack on Pearl Harbour, again.. Read this shit ---it is important cause somehow, the fact that you're asking means that when you did this thing, the instant default response WAS NOT to be as honest with your fambly---the closest people to you in the whole wonderful world--- How in the world were you raised that when you did this you didn't instantly think. "Oh shit, I gotta make this right"? I understand and advise that sometimes you gotta say "Never lie when half the truth will do" but that's for dealing with essentially evil people who think their job is to fuck with people---not HELP people...you know like bureaucrats, administrators, cops, judges, insurance low-lifes, tax collectors, customs scum etc.. But people who feed you and keep you warm and love you---how were you raised that you didn't FIRST choose to do the right thing?? This moral failing--and it is a moral failing--is not your fault alone--you are really just a kid, we know nothing about you--except the words you've written , so because you're a kid, we can't blame you 100%.. Somebody, your fambly and/or your culture taught you to not be honest.. Discussing with your parents at your own initiative why you grew up lacking reflexive honesty--could be a mitzvah---in the sense of 'a good thing'. Now when you've made peace with Popski, you gonna find a nice sturdy cheap thing of your won you can begin thrashing? IDK. My first thought was to call my parents and tell them, but then I looked at the damage and thought "hey I can fix this, no big deal". Then when everything looked ok, I figured what they don't know won't hurt em. And plus, I feel multiple perspectives on things helps and I don't know that much about cars.

This reminds me of the thoughts that Antoine L'Estage said that he went through after smutching the rented WRC car. 1) Natalie, are you OK? 2) We are (monetarily) screwed. |
