Naw the offset bottom deal is too expensive to pull off in short runs and even combining Xratties and Fucci, that is still short run.
The idea is, and we're already in process is to run larger diameter springs like circle track 5 or 5.5 OD springs... Comrade Tony in Czechcago was given assignmenet to look up spring travel for a constant rate as a function of diameter, it confirmed what I "knew' (in my gut) that larger diameter for a given rate means we can get the 190mm travel we want in a shorter spring than the common 14" or the nicer ones I've begun using, the "Long Travel 12" springs"
A 10" free length in a 5" ID will be fine..

But now there's the need for making some slip over spring perches to fit over the existing upper and lower registers..
Comrade Sgt Escott in Kenntucky is back from blowing up Afganiac terr'ists and has the set up test big perches that he should be checking out on his Xratty...

But don't want to blab too much till we see if something jumps up and bites us in the bum..
In his case he's making a hot road car and wants wide wheels which will want to rub on the springs, on our case its the packaging even if we use sensible 6" wide wheels with ET38

We'll see but I feel we can do it OK at marginal additional cost.

Well visited 3 yards this weekend. No Saab 9k wheels at any of them.

no and you will have a really tough time finding the saab wheels. The audi 5k FWD and the 90/coupe quattros all run the 4*108 bolt pattern and an et 37 offset on a 15" wheel. Vittorio runs the coupe speedlines and i don't think he is kind to them. I picked up two sets of the 5k wheels for 50$ each set. The speedlines will run you ~200 for a set of 4.

the center bore is off a bit, you can run a small spacer, or take em to your local machine shop and have them punched out a smidge

Don't forget a bore and chamfer. At least xr rear hubs aren't square shouldered...

lol, got bikes on my mind... was thinking what would he be doing with a honda rim??? then it clicked. The foci have a shoulder on the hub?

I had a set of Compo TH2 that a friend had bought for PPIHC for his Audi S2, but he broke two of them at one race. He sold the car but kept the wheels. Then he started building a Focus and bought two Focus wheels. He owned a mill so bored the Audi pair to the diameter needed for the Focus. He sold the Focus then ended up giving me the wheels in exchange for my codriving duties with him that year. I put them on the Merkur and they were bad ass. Found out though that the Merkur hub is slightly rounded at the face so the wheel he did that didn't have a chamfer would never sit flat or get tight. Lucky I noticed before I let the car sit for years on end drove on them.

I might be rejoining the workforce sooner than hoped. If so that will mean more money coming in, but less time to work on stuff. Double edged sword. Gotta finish this thesis first. Still on campus working, mind hurting... Principal variation component analysis is kicking my ass...
