regestered this morning, im a member on focaljet but find the rally area quite lacking in info. anyways finally picked up an 04 svt focus 5door of my liking to start my rally build ive been kicking around in my head for a few years. I plan to make my first event the Porterfield #4 rallycross at Glen Helen on september 7th and 8th. Then hopefully some stage stuff if i can find some within reasonable driving/towing distance (probably desert/primm stages in december if memory serves me correctly) the car sould be going in to be caged late july, between now and then the plan is to get some jvab coilovers ordered up. then wheels/tires and harnesses/seats. Anyone wanna fill me in on how to get the car setup on logbook? i have the nasa/RA specs for the cage for my fab guy, just need to know where to get it signed off after completion. idk what the classes are now but last i checked im wanting to build the car as a gr2 class pos. here is a pic of the car as it sits now.

Alright..another Focaljet guy!
Yeah The Jet is a great Focus site..but the rally section grows cob webs badly. And you're in Socal and have a blue 2004 like me(mines a plain ol' ZX3 with the 2.3 though). Hope to see you at the #4 at Glen Helen....I'll be there. You'll definitely get good advice from the guys here. I hope you post your build here and I'm curious who your cage guy is...my cars just a cone squisher right now but I need to get in on some of that stage rallying thing.... You are making me jealous mentioning the JVAB suspenders-I want to order but have some other things I need to do to my car right now...maybe I can just send a deposit on the fronts for now....payments are good-right John? Do we want 40's or 50's? Biggerer is betterer in 'Murica-right? ................................................. ..................... Support your Local North American Rally Forum!! To both youse guys a note on the 50s: aside from the big increase in weight, the way your (and my Sierra stuff, too and for that matter MkIV Golves) with the strut socketing into the knuckle, there are a couple of problems vis a vis "ear " type struts. A) the distance from front face of hub to the centerline of the strut socket is fixed and there's nothing we can do about that, it just is... a) so the age old problem of---with longer travel struts we need longer travel springs and those springs are arf-ully close to the tire as it is with standard 2 1/2" ID coil over springs, which are around 3.5" OD.. In fact to be safe , if using a "real' Focus wheel with ET49-ET52 we probably want a 4-6mm spacer, or a Sierra offset around ET38-ET 40 wheel So with 50mm insert and a 3" id spring, the problem is a little bigger (remember to think radius, the interfereence problem is only on the one side.) ![]() b) this is easier, just some local grindy grindy, the a bit of weldie weldie---and you SHOULD be stitching and doubling up the crossmember where the pivot bolt pass thru so do it, OK So, so far, this has meant most everybody (Focci and Xratti) have gotten 40mm or 41mm (yeah there's 41 out there too, same 36mm piston internally just a little thick wall--first seen on Sierras--which were a bit heavier than Escorts rwd which used 40s to such good effect. yeah my fav color, 1 of 48 made in 2004 (eap package) and i hate when people dont use them for what they want. its got 98k on the clock, just serviced timing belt and intake boots etc, im not sure about the duratec swap, its a possibility, although i had my sights set on a high comp itb setup on a spare 2.0 block that i need to source (maybe il find a duratec and try to finagle my head onto it haha). who knows what the future brings, hopefully i can get at least 20k out of this this revving the everliving piss out of it in gravel though. |

im gunna try and get it there for sure, my cage guy is a long time friend (5th grade) and former welder/fab guy at "Richer Racing" now he manages "Pure Turbo" in oceanside and helps do fab stuff out of there (by the way the owner of Pure Turbo Jessie is the MAN to see about turbo stuff and advice. |

im hopefully ordering 5 et38 15x7 T/D pro rally (at that offset they (t/d) have assured me it will clear svt brakes) this week friday, my problem is: i need these beefy as fawk, if the 40/41 will hold up for a year or so im down with that, and prefer them to be relativly bolt on i have not a problem having my fab guy strengthen the stock shite and tying into the cage. but i prefer not to worries about building hoops/etc this time around for a year or so, at which time i will be moving to a spherical system and probably longer shocks (with john again im sure) but i want to get used to a ifs/irs off road vehicle (used to pre runners) before i get crazytown of isn. anyone got a suggest for tire size on a 15x7 et38 wheel (Off road) hoping to keep it around 200$ each ? Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/12/2013 09:24PM by liv3mind. |

So much at one time and I hates typing.. First 7 x 15 is what WRC turbo cars with just a smidge more BHP and maybe a tad more torque use...
Not going to say you shouldn't, this is America where bigger than whats sensible is a Constitutional right, but just because everybody else does something foolish and pointless, does that mean you have to? Big wheels and big fat tires suck up a LOT of power, not to mention gearing you UP maybe 7-8%, which hurts a lot with a relatively mild little motor.. Just going from 62cm tall tires to 65cm tall hurts my little V4--and I have 5.45 final drive and 11.3 or 11.4 compression ... As for tires, there again nearly everybody uses tires way fatter---and therefore heavier and hurting gearing---more than normal.. Michelins wonderful 14/62 x 15 (14 cm on tread face, 62 cm tall and 15" rim) was developed for 2.0 Group N cars where power was anticpated to be in the 190-200bhp range and standard final drive....that's somewhere in between a 175/70 x 15 and a 185/65 x 15 for outputs around 190-200.. Just saying ![]() John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! undrstood. yeah just a smidge and a tad hahahaha, thanks for the advice and a back to reality check, im not necessarily wanting to run a massive tire, and im definitely not arguing it being overkill, i was thinking of something in the 185/195/65 range on a 15x7 wouldnt be too huge or too wide. i suppose those sizes could technically be mounted safely to a 15x6 as well, sorry im new to this smaller width wheel and tires numbers game |

after spending a good amount of time on the phone with john last night, the 40/41 sounds like it will hold up to ALOT of shit, although if you want the 50's he has some shit going on (testing) that sound bad mutha fckin ass if you can be a little patient, that will solve the tire/wheels clearence issues completely, definately take the time to let him explain it to you. John im headed to wrecking yard friday to see if i can find a saab 9k wheel and send you some pics of clearences |
