Gene, it was the right decision.

Agree. Absolutely. "Talk about drugs. Driving a car like that, going that fast, it’s like all the drugs at once." - Tommy Byrne "Now, Pinky, if by any chance you are captured during this mission, remember you are Gunther Heindriksen from Appenzell. You moved to Grindelwald to drive the cog train to Murren. Can you repeat that?" - The Brain |

Thanks for the run down. Certainly would be a difficult decision to make and I don't envy you. First Rally: 2001 Driver (7), Co-Driver (44) Drivers (16) Clerk (10), Official (7), Volunteer (4) Cars Built (1), Engines Built (0) Cages Built (0) Last Updated, January 4, 2015 ![]()

As the old guy on the porch says...Thank you for your support...
Rules mention 'purposely' and 'flagrantly' shortcutting a course. Possibly one or two competitors did that, most didn't (I believe). Will Orders was second on road, banner guard down, and realized they wrong slotted. Experience paid off and they quickly figured out the road reconnected and much less danger to proceed . So it would be near impossible to figure scores to even the distance out because of the dust factor affecting some teams more than others. We learned a lesson and will make adjustments in the way we do things. We had timing issues from control workers, scoring issues from the software and internet, Alan Perry was looking for a bridge to jump off of. He is awesome and held his ground until it was resolved. The finish awards on Sunday wasn't acceptable in my opinion, I apologize to the competitors, we'll do better on that next time. But..it was a great event. Great competitors, great stages, great competiton. The media people had a ball without the dark overlords restrictive and unrealistic petty policies. Hockers were a joy to be around again and running an event under NRS guidance (differing from thumb) is a pleasure to say the least. On behalf of the organizing crew I'd like to thank the competitors, crews, volunteers , media and spectators for allowing us to have so much fun. |

There was a Marshall the second running through. Not the first running. I was in 000 on Sunday and didn't really see it as a problem corner but it's hard to tell sometimes. We are pretty anal about banner tape but if someone's blown through it could be confusing at speed I guess. The tulip was pretty clear and the mileage was spot on and they had two-pass recce available for that stage. No everyone blew the corner but approx. 30% did and tire tracks are hard not to follow. |

On the first running, there was no marshall there. It would be impossible to marshall every single side road and goat trail, and might be deemed unnecessary in the case of a road that was otherwise "stage locked". The stage did get recce'd. A marshall was added on the second running. We missed the turn - I think we were 8th on the road. My note was "Turn Right 3+". I went straight, thinking the Right 3 was up ahead. We figured it out pretty quickly, but we were too far to back up, so we continued a little ways- But had no idea where the road went, and there wasn't a good place to turn around. We were keenly aware that a car in front of us could have made the same error and could be coming at us, and were keenly aware that turning around could have us facing the car that was behind us. At one point, we saw dust in front of us, and Dan thought it might be a car coming at us. It turns out that dust was likely the stage road again, but we weren't sure if it was, or which direction the traffic would be going (we also knew we were close to the previous stage's road). We made the decision to turn around and creep back. We quickly met Mike Goodwin coming back at us, although he had slowed a lot also. We went back to the missed turn and waited for the next car to go by, and then we re-entered the stage. Goodwin was right behind us. The missed turn was just a natural path to follow. I understand why many went that way. In hindsight, we made a bad decision to turn around, and we're lucky that Mike had slowed a bit in that section. If I'd known that we could re-join the stage without turning around, I would have waited at that point until it looked safe to rejoin the stage. However, we had no idea where that road went. Otherwise, we had a great time at this rally. I drove tentatively all weekend, still smarting a bit from the repair bill from Oregon Trail. But we still had some turns and stage sections that made it all worth it (kind of like have a one or two good drives in a round of golf, even when the rest of your game sucks!). It was great to see Derik do well in the BMW, and always nice to see Hendo setting some impossible stage times. Thanks to Gene (wearing jeans, not a bikini) and the rest of the organizers and volunteers for putting this together. Having EVERYTHING at Casino/Hotel is a fantastic formula. Please keep doing that! Did anybody leave any random triangles with made up peoples names on them laying around? Like "Hannu" or "Miki"?

The corner was a tid decieving. And if youre running at speed and no banner tape ahead, i thought the corner was further up till i saw the instruction sign last minute. The other guy that turned around didnt expect me to be there and i didnt expect to have someone comin at me there either. Shit happens.
