The mcguyver incident happened just past where i was on stage. Couldnt remember the year. Forgotten about the early start..yikes!

And i just got off the phone with pops and he said the collection of route books that was in Simpson /greendiamond archives has been lost or was taken home by the other guy who did the road use permits when he retired a couple years ago.

Ranger Rick! Well we oughtter be able to track him down..prolly have his phone number somewhere cause he wadded his poor defenseless Datsun into a Rat-soon and I found him some fresh body parts down at John's Auto Wrecking on S93rd south of Oly airport...
Schmelling I seem to recall. He retired? At his age?

Rick is still there and currently the mole keeping the roads available ..

Charlie travaglione was the permit writer but retired. My dad and charlie are buddies so they may be recovered if he kept them.

Rick currently is playing with a z car in rallycross. He may have some info (route books) since he got into stage rally around 99/2k

Cool! You grab him and hold his arms back and Alan can make him into a punching bag until he coughs up all the old route books and maps he's probably using to hold up the corner of the couch with..

Edit: and if memory serves ..88 taylor stage was the mcguyver incident! Wonder if he ever lived that down..and i forget the year but jason priestly went agricultural on nahwatzel late 90's/ maybe 2k?

The never answer question was who started Marku Alen down that SS before it was cleared?

I remember sitting in line at that stage start forfrickinever and the responsible party running up and down the line-up apologizing. I think that was his first event working a stage but that may be incorrect.

OBTW, the FX-16 that Rod was in that McGuyver rolled was given to him, sans paper work . It passed thru my hands maybe 10 years later .

My favorite memory of Nahwatzel was Dryad/Shitepoke 2002. It was 27.20 miles long. We changed a flat half way through the stage and got another flat with 5 miles to go so drove it out. It was a right rear and the tire delaminated after a couple of miles. The tire tore up everything in that corner and put a hole in the bodyshell, so the car started filling with dust. The intercom failed, so I had to start screaming the route instructions (in the dust; I was coughing blood for a bit). Then we came around a blind corner and saw Todd Lengacher's Audi upside down in the middle of the road and just missed the car. Then the rear brakes failed. We finished the stage, went through the stop control and got out to check things out. The wheel was destroyed and the right rear brakes (rotor and caliper) and half-shaft were no longer on the car.

The next car loaned us a wheel to get back to service, where we had a spare right (and left) rear corner to swap in and we got back into the rally.
