About the same time as Suzuki sell you Monster's car and Mazda sell you Millen's.

Better yet, send them out with a date for release that has already passed.

Can't find the article but the Peugot was developed for another series that then had the plug pulled. So some smart guys said, "well what can we do now that we've got all the development done." And voila, Pikes Peak special. Asked to borrow Loeb for it and Citroen said okay and schedules worked out.
They had a U-haul flat bed I believe. So did Pat Doran...

Michel - Didn't realize you were in Denver. Probably busy with work but usually try to make time to meet with any rallyists in town. We do shop nights on Tuesday nights which is always a good time.

Article: INSIGHT: Loeb's labor of love with Peugeot at Pikes Peak
This time, it's Peugeot's endurance racing program that was stopped last year, as a result of which the 208 T16 is largely a 908 Le Mans racer under the (all-carbon) skin. With Pikes Peak now being fully asphalted, this was a golden opportunity to make use of the parts and knowledge while recreating a bit of history.

The rear wing, for example, actually competed at Le Mans in 2007, as did the roof-mounted air scoop. The running gear and suspension is all 908, while the engine is a Peugeot 3.2-liter V6 twin turbo developed for the well-known Pescarolo team, which was used at Le Mans up until 2003. Peugeot briefly considered using the diesel V8 fitted to their 908 Le Mans car, but the length, weight and power output of the latest engine (built to strict Le Mans regulations) were ultimately judged not to be suitable.

That's the one! I looked for it but couldn't find it and couldn't come up with the right search term.

It was pretty funny when Michel walked up and answered my post in person - so thanks again for answering Merrilee... I was a last ditch request after finding no good info online, so then we figured it was better to be too early than too late.n

Drove to the summit Friday and Saturday, and then to Devil's for the race, and
have a total new sense of AWE at any of the racer's times - but the new 8:13 record absolutely blows my mind. Seeing the mountain so much we kept scouting the best places to view, and finally while in line we decided to say screw it watching from the start line - and went to Devil's playground instead. grinning smiley

I drove down from Canada 18 hours door to hotel to see the race in my 505 Turbo, and my buddy Marc drove even longer in his 205 GTi from California. Devils offered the best vantage point to see the car the most - so that's what we did. Pretty well prepared, but planned and packed for a consession being available so we were mostly just hungry.

Couple clarifications - Car does have a ton of LeMan's 908 under it, but it was much more than just repurposed 908 prototype, but made for a hell of a parts bin to raid. Add in 4WD, twin turbo V6 that they supplied to the Pescaralo sports racers, F1 brakes, etc etc... Car was purpose built to dominiate Pike's Peak and it did it nicely. Apparently Red Bull was responsible for Loeb as well - story goes Peugeot approached Red Bull for sponsorship, and Red Bull offered Loeb. They had to sort it out with Citroen - but I'm just happy they did - I don't know any other driver that could have pulled it off as well.

Both my 505 and the 205 were big hits on the mountain with the fans which was really cool to see. I didn't think anybody would even know what my car was, but I was constantly finding people taking pictures of my car, thumbs up, waves, and even cheers through the start finish area on our way down after the race. smiling smiley

Cool points of interest - it was my 9 year reunion trip since working on the RS200 in 2004 (they got 9:46 this year - WOOT!), and it was my 25th year of owning Peugeot's - same gap to Ari's win in 88' - so it was a cool trip to make for those reasons, let alone to witness the 8:13 run.

Portuguese Rally Spectating Club field trip!

They didn't try to slap the car as it went by, though, otherwise was thinking the same thing.

How old was he during the Group B days, like five-ten maybe?

Well, hell, I had a friend who was selling his 405 Mi16 a couples months ago. Maybe he should have waited and bumped the price up 1000% after Pikes Peak?

I'm in Denver about once a month these days, usually for a day or two in the middle of the week. Would be good to get together to swap stories and have beer.
