Our goal this year is actually quite simple: break into the 9’s. We got a 10:20 last year. We had some brake issues, as well as some slick conditions due to rain.

Dave's first two splits ( http://livetiming.net/ppihc/ ) had him on track for a time right about 10-flat, but looks like he started losing time on section #3, and was really losing time on section #4.

Bummer about not hitting your goal, curious to hear what happened.

Last year was a 10:20. I expected him to beat 10 minutes.
Saturday night was some wiring issues, misfires, unreliable readings from WB O2, etc.
I'm sure he'll update us with more info later. Still good enough for 4th place and 1st privateer effort. I think he could have challenged for the win in class without the problem. At least been in battle for 2nd.
Paul Dallenbach 9:46.001
David Donner 9:53.581
Jeff Zwart 10:13.856
David Kern 11:13.074
Toshiki Yoshioka 12:13.753

Dallenbach was in Rhys Millens Hyundai Genesis Pikes Peak car. Donner and Zwart both are in Porsche GT3 Cup cars. Zwart's is turbo, not sure on Donner's.

That's a particularly good time considering he got tanked by the weather. It was hailing on him by the time he came up through Devil's Playground.

Yeah, didn't hear about the weather factor. I did hear it was snowing on summit at some point, but wasnt' sure what Dave caught. Sounds like he was first to get the shit.

You can see the clouds moving in at the end of this shortest in-car video in history.

Yup. He came through 16 mile in a hail storm. Looked good, but would obviously have been much faster w/o the ice balls all over the road.

Sounds like he is on the verge of awesomeness then. Pavement and ice balls don't sound like a particular hoot to me.

Pavement, ice balls, and exposure. And geez, what an exposure.

Also, gasping for air.

And doughnuts, if you make it that far.

^^^ is the "hotshoe" that was "hired" to drive the evo last year. No idea if the slowstice was built by the guy who built the evo or not.

Will put together a writeup later (for immediate release two days ago!), but short version is:

-developed gearbox problems on Thursday. Drained fluid and found 4 teeth.
-developed severe misfire on Friday AM practice session.
-by Saturday night at midnight we still couldn't figure out where it was coming from.
-towed up to the pits Sunday AM and went back to work on it.
-found the possible source of the problem around 10am and got clearance from my tuner to actually make a go at it.
-mounted up slicks because we had to line up 20 minutes before we actually ran and the summit still looked ok.
-severe misfire above 6k
-hit rain just a few corners up
-hail started about mid mountain
-thankful for hydro handbrake because the car wouldn't turn
-fogged up my side of the windshield
-finished in a cloud
-made finish line about a minute faster than I did a few years ago in the rain
-consumed donuts and fudge whilst sitting in a car with a heater and windows (not mine)
-drove back down and onto trailer

Dave
