That's about normal for an FD. MTBF for an engine is about 60k. Between the cramped engine bay and the restrictive twin-turbo setup and the crappy intake manifold so that they need to make boost to do anything at all, the engines are one big fat heat problem.

Don't forget the 60+ vacuum lines that reside under that intake manifold and control those turbos with lots of awesome vacuum solenoid computing power

owning an FD is basically like having unprotected sex with an angry ex-wife. Who happens to be really hot.

Regarding the RX-8's engine, I'll relate a story from a couple weeks ago when we swapped out the mild 402 in my boss's '70 Monte Carlo for a 488ci big-block with the heads angle-milled .100", cam in the 250 degree range, etc.

"This car had a nice smooth idle for the past fourteen years. It sucked!"
