Mendicino Rally 2013....what happened?
July 22, 2013 02:33PM
http://mendocinorally.com/

Saw some results for the 2 days. Dave Henderson minutes per SS ahead.

Seems no news at all, is it all on Facetweetwhatever?

It was advertised as Over three hours of competitive driving!

Henderson had a total time of 1h58m . What happened to 3 hours?
What did our own Hoche-Mong?
Rosner?
Seems like there was virtually no change in the top 11 the whole weekend long...as far as i could see from the crappy format the result were done in.

There's some text updates...
Stage 3 was cancelled due to heat and mostly timing due to delays.

What car was this team in?
"Henry and Jack Gillow-Wiles have withdrawn from the event, feeling the roads were unsuitable for their car. They are not planning on running tomorrow's event, either."

Sounds like Michel and Eddie both had VW stub shaft failures maybe?

No, we had a little miscommunication, and I stuffed it and ripped the entire right front corner off.

Eddie had a stub-axle failure.

Dunno about the Gillow-Wiles; they had an early-90s Honda Civic.

The scoring program was rewritten for this year and focus has been on getting it to DTRT from a scoring accuracy standpoint. Spit'n'polish are on the agenda.

People are in the shade in their cars and just sitting, it's not a lot of work twirling power steering assisted wheel or wiggling a gearshift occasionally..

Wonder what the timing issue delay was?

Sounds like a fun ONE DAY event, so odd that 2 days is needed for 2 hours of driving...

So little news...

You'll be more careful next time.

Seriously, Michael, convince people not to follow the idiotic "Standings" bullshit of a single page with cumulative times added up.
2 columns like every where in the entire world except a few US sites.
Don't need to think speccies or readers can figure out stuff, its all right there.

Cancelled for heat?

Cancelled due to the time it took to remove a variety of broken old VWs littered about the course.

Marciniak posted something like that comment on Facebook this morning so I did some figurin' this morning. I think the event could've been run in one single 13hr day, or maybe an hour shorter if it can stay on 1min intervals. The drivers would get breaks at turnarounds, not at service though - turnaround wait times would probably be about 45 mins or so and services would have to be about 30 minutes or so.

In fairness that is something that applies to every event......I mean hell we did and other still do, 130 mile enduros in summer weather averaging 18-24mph and it is just a skance bit more effort banging your body into trees for 5-7 hours than sitting in a car.

Recce means double the miles and probably 50-100% "more" seat time too!

Yeah.

Dunno what his permit requirements are. There might be some sort of "you have to be off the roads by X o'clock" clause or something. I know that at this point there are several different parties interested in "helping" the organizer revise his schedule.

While I think the approach of "we're not having fun, let's blow this popsicle stand" has some merit, if they're only expecting baby-butt smooth roads with service every other stage, I'm not sure how many more event's they'll be doing.

And in defense of whoever was doing tech - I had a look at their car in parc expose at Idaho. I'm no welding expert, and know that visual appearance of a weld isn't necessarily a reflection of quality [good or bad], but their cage has some very visible, very crappy looking welds.

I was Chief Scrutineer. I took a look at their welds and almost didn't let them run. When I asked them who welded it they replied they had, "but we got better as we went."

I've never been called a "self-righteous douche canoe" before. That's a new one. Might make a bumper sticker out of it.

*shrug* Seemed like nice guys at the event, but if that's the kind of vitriol they harbor, fuck 'em.
