All good in both ways. Single carbs like the DCOE and IDA on a conventional 4 cyl engine can have problems, but when this thread involves the mating of such a carb to an alien technology rotary engine I guess there are other variables at play. It's always interesting to read and learn more about these things. Disappointingly not yet a Jackass |

The big one is all our meagre brain power thinks like gawd intended 1 hole per cylinder, 4 cylinders, around 2,0 Those rotaruies are really equivalent of about a 4.1 liter V6 in terms of BSFC, power made, power impulses....So each rotor is abour 2,0 and that whole 2,0 is getting ONE throat---for what a normal motor would do per cyinder.. Very cornfusing. (The "1200" or "1300"cc thing is a BS deal the State Gubbymint where NSUs were made let NSU claim so the old Ro80 could be sold as "1.3L" to get under the big jump in sales tax in Italy, France, and Spain...politics, not reality) John Vanlandingham Sleezattle, WA, USA Vive le Prole-le-ralliat www.rallyrace.net/jvab CALL +1 206 431-9696 Remember! Or type (X) inches = ? mm into Google. There is also a nice calculator function. For example: https://www.google.com/#q=the+answer+to+life+the+universe+and+everything Pete Remner Cleveland, Ohio 1984 RX-7 (rallycross thing) 1978 Silence is golden, but duct tape is silver. |

Also, single Webers on rotaries really stress the fuel system in weird ways since you can make more power with half the carb because of the doubling of airflow. People make 300+hp on one IDA, people don't make 1200+hp on a V8 with four IDAs or 600+hp on a four with two IDAs. So you have to flow lots fuel in meaning bigger than the biggest needle and seat available and you also sometimes/oftentimes/usually have to do some cutting and welding to make the bowl tons larger.
This thread has me convinced, anyway. Screw carbs for the GTI, I know EFI. I'm not clueless around a carb and have gained somewhat of a reputation for having the Demon Tweak on some of the more bastardized feal leakers cast in pot metal, but the more I learn about how they really work, the more I know that I don't know a damned thing.
