I'm startin a new topic y'all
August 18, 2014 08:59PM
I like to drive my car on gravel roads. I like to turn hard. I limit myself to 30 mph on the L curves. I want to break traction on some duller curves, but I am scared. I have watched rally crash compilation videos; they give the impression that cars love to roll like barrels.

I would like to know how fast you think I should be able to wreck and not get hurt badly, without a harness, helmet, or cage.

I'm going to nicely guess you're already suffering from head injury by the nature of your question.

A schoolmate of mine died in a 20mph head on (40mph combined) ..broken neck. Many years ago a friend working at the shop behind mine was killed in a one punch fight. My mother fell down 1/2 flight of stairs..never woke up. What do you want to hear?

No one here will want to be responsible for any injuries or worse you receive on our advise. Next question??? and welcome to Rally Anarchy.

Umm...no... don't do what you are doing....

At the least...look up the local SCCA rallycross website in your region and see if they have a rally/rallyx school in your area(as they do in mine).

You will get reasonably priced instruction from actual stage rally drivers in a controlled environment and learn at least slow and medium speed limits of your car.

If you have a bigger budget source out some actual rally instruction at a proper rally school...but
wait-you know what-skip that for now and start with the basic stuff.

This is what we have in my neck of the woods-hopefully you have something similar back there:

Ummmm... Cars aren't round... So they don't roll like barrels.... More like cars...

Rally cars roll with anger... as to tip back onto their rubbers so they can hook another ditch.

Don't be scared, be respectful, have fun!

Ya .. .go find a rally cross.

honda civic ? go find a dirt lot or a dirt road that's like 3-4+ lanes wide.

get going about 5-10, and yank up on your E-brake. the back will step out, and now you're "drifting"

even better if its a little bit wet out. WATCH OUT FOR RUTS, but start slow, and find some actual racing environments. I always thought i was fast .. until i went to some races and learned i was slow.

BTW for legal reasons i'm going to say that only a moron would follow my advice and its going to kill you. except for the going to a sanctioned race part .. that's safe enough

With no cross winds or surface moisture? 38 mph. Assuming you are taking the coriolis effect into account.

And are these "duller turns" exceptionally dull or just slightly less than scintillating?

That's too short of a wheelbase to go fast on gravel safely. It needs to be the magical 101" or so.

You'll be a true gravel hero if it's a certain shade of blue, with green on all four corners.

No thanks but i'm in the market for motocross chest protector, neck brace, knee pads, knee braces, elbow pads, and kidney belt to wear while I drive my civic 45 mph.

I attached a map of a local example. The bottom turn is the duller one. I'm scurred.
