Destroyed vineyards certainly sucks though.

Not a very well written article and the comments included from "wine fans" can be probably be minimized or discarded. Damage to commercial land next to a rally stage is a big deal, these land owners pay local taxes and know the local politicians that give the rally road use permits. No different if it had been a corn, soy bean, cotton field in the US. Sounds like the rally organizers could have done a better job of communicating with the land owners and resolving damage issues faster. Not sure how spectator control works in Europe but it sounds like keeping spectators off the vineyards property solved 90% of the complaints.
