And then A quick search revealed this: Warrior Comes Out To Play

From which I noted this:

I can only assume that with a cage like that Mr. McKinley Must have since died a horrible death and taken a few small towns with him.

Okay....?

This is how a lot of older cages looked, especially ones built in 1994.

Bolt in 6 point Safety Devices cage. The standard of the day back in the '80's & '90's. We crashed these, went off cliffs, etc and never died. Usually. I personally went off a 75 foot cliff in Colorado with a bolt in Safety Devices cage and didn't die. Cages are certainly safer now, though.

Most clubman cars in the UK are still bolt-ins. Crash a 205 on a saturday morning out again the following weekend with a new car same cage. And they are MSA/FIA approved and cheap US$700.

Yes, it's a Ranger.
Xr4Ti, it is rwd and was made in Germany.

I wonder who this is? Seems to be a bogus name, no location...
Whatever, nice car, good points..
Whole counties would be devastated if that car ever touched a SS here. Those tubes would just spear people spontaneously...

Thank god we can never go back to the same sort of cages which we had in say mid 90s.
But the ghosts of all the battalions of people we lost to cage failure would rise up.
Wow, a Zombie Apocolypse!

I'm just a fan.

The article mentions also that not only is the cage bolt in, but the joints and braised?!

I'm guessing some connection with Netherland Antilles since the nederlandse word for crankshaft is krukas...

I don't know about braising, as that's a method of cooking, but brazing is something you'll see on some older cars. The only experience I have in seeing this method is some older Formula Fords, perhaps others know more.

Brazing is incredibly strong if done properly. Small gaps are a must to make it work out. It can actually result in a joint that is stronger than both the parent and filler metals.... all through magic!

Is a full moon involved in some way?

Re: So theres this:

Surprisingly no. From what I remember it involves 3d complex stress states that actually cancel out stresses in certain slip planes in the solder or brazing material.
Since the material has to keep it's same volume/mass/density as it is stretched the solder wants to neck down (pure tension loading here). But at the interface with the parent metal, it can't do that (have to have good bonding and small gaps). So there's this complex stress state there. It just so happens that the primary slip planes are different for those two metals and they fight back and forth with who gets to break first (I can double check this in a few days when I get back to my fracture book.

So basically a full moon and planetary alignment. If you have sage burning at the same time it helps as well.
