WRC Great Britain pics
November 18, 2014 06:03PM
A few Volkswagen-themed pics from last weekend

The Seat Sport Spain-built VW works Golf R recce cars, plus a spare hack at the back:

Shakedown stage before the proper start, ludicrous slides threaded into.... narrow steel-posted gateway:

45 minutes daily service to tear them down, clean them and all back together:

Fancy low friction coating on the damper stem?

Polo sumpguard:

The competition can't catch these things - 12 wins out of 13 this year:

Suspension travel of all WRC-regulation cars takes some believing- front right down in gulley, back right compressed:

Compared with a Group N Lancer Evo's suspension, the difference is massive.

Great landscapes...

And keeping the whole thing real - a privateer LHD recce car:

Terratrip, forest tyres, sumpguard. Job done!

Maybe, just maybe, it’s down to the driver.

Pretty cool piccies Chris.
The colour is Titanium Nitride. Slicker than shit out of a goose and harder than about anything but the DLC (Diamond Like Coating)...What's really nice is the coating is like 1/millionth (OK a smidge more) thick...You can do it post machining and really doesn't change dimensions...
And in an industrial scale, its inexpensive...

And its purdy, too.

Thanks John, I get photos published every so often.

Cheers for clarifying the material thumbs up I did ask the PR guys, but they don't know the full detail.

Sumpguard is interesting to say the least. I assume those risers are solid Al and butt up against hardpoints on the car?

Here's a picture from last year showing the front right outer mount. The opposite outer mount will be the same.

I can't make sense of the next one inwards from the right which would be under the centre of the sump, but it is a bespoke non-production engine so they could have done anything with the sump design, or the subframe.

Maybe, just maybe, it’s down to the driver.
