Well we ran our first test today on the mill. Just a quick little pocket into a scrap piece of wood but still up and running!

Super round. We just opened a demo program and quickly clamped a scrap of wood. Action is always exciting and motivating!

Can I do that while I'm pooping or after 8 pm? Because that's about the only few minutes of free time I get. Or between generating mailing labels like right now. Junkyard run would be a three hour endeavor. Can't tell you the last time I had time to run to a junkyard.
Not to mention figuring out the correct one to work with my serpentine belt setup. How long will it take to hold down the pulley and remove 0.215" of material from the backside. I bet it can all be done after 9 pm some Tuesday night while a few of us rally friends stand around drinking beer and talking about who is going to beat who at 100AW and who is slower and sucks more and why.

Yesterday was the first day we didn't come in and work since probably Rally Idaho thanks to some broken equipment. I can't wait for PRI this weekend. Bringing a few technical books I haven't had time to get to reading with me to absorb on the plane and evenings in the hotel. I will likely work from when we get back on Saturday night until Monday morning essentially to try to catch us up from my absence.

I've been playing around with FreeCAD which is buggy and unstable which makes it all the more fun!

Here's a top mount I made. The dimensions are rough, but the idea is to move the location for the top pin back towards the firewall for some caster gain. There's a bit of adjustment so you don't need to run camber washers on the strut.

The bearing carrier wouldn't be secured with machine screws, it would protrude through the hole and be threaded for a lock ring that would be cinched down with a spanner.

But anyhoo, just goofin'.

You kinda lost me on the bearing carrier thing.
Top mounts are one of the many things we plan to make with this new tool, though not likely that we'll make the adjustable.
And considering the three cages we have to build right now I think it'll be spring before we do much more playing with this. Though some of our friends may spend more time on it.

So we also realized that with a little ingenuity and a piece of wood we could use the mill as a plasma guide. Here I am cutting a BMW E30 cage foot. Took about three hours from idea to completion. This will save me money and more importantly time in having to drive across town to pick up plasma cut pieces. Probably should build a little better table than a trash can for doing this...
