January 19, 2015 02:37PM
I just bought this car. I think there was a guy on here who once mentioned that a Volvo might make a decent rally car? Despite their obviously flimsy construction and inferior rwd? cool smiley

They are terrible and woeful. Get a blue Subaru and don't look back. They're boxy and you will never win THE BIG RACE with them despite them being the predominant choice amongst 2WD competitors in the best part of the world when it comes to rallying (Scandinavia).

It goes without saying that things are different here. I really see no point why you are wasting our time in order to seek validation for choosing such a POS. May God have mercy on your soul.

Wasn't there a nice thread over on that clean cut polite place where I schooled you in just how un-cool these cars are..
I think you need to re-read it and copy/paste things here before this lost child beings down the road to perdition..

Explain WHY he needs a car with moar stylez like 510s...

Well, I'm hoping to have it ready to go for the 2016 season. I plan on running Group 2 in the RA Central Region events.

Will I be allowed to wear flat-brim hats and suglasses with reflective 80s-esque lenses, or is that strictly an AWD thing?

Considering you're in the Portland area you maybe familiar with the city ordinance requiring this particular car to grace every thoroughfare in the Portland-Vancouver area.

These rolling refrigerators (apologies to all nice refrigerators everywhere) can be had for less than $2000 of your greenbacks. You have many to choose from.

So yes a Volvo 240 (don't forget the 242 coupe if you like) will be the perfect car for you. All the hipsters have them (which means you probably could trade them for it with a case or two of Pabst Blue Ribbon) so they will be easy to get and maintain. Also due to their potential on the stages you could have a good run with the BIG boys if you can drive it.

Let's look at a typical club racer in Sweden with one of these cars.

Not bad for a refrigerator. That one video convinced me more than all of the Gymkhana videos and pictures of blue Subarus, Golves, Focii and expensive Big Money Waster. There's a reason these cars are the dominant 2WD choice amongst rallyists in Sweden and the Finnish 2WD National class champion for the 2nd year running. These two countries have forgotten more about rally than the US community knows so I tend to listen to what they have to say considering that I would like to be half as good as those guys but that's just my lowly opinion. However, surely I couldn't comment

Janet you slut, I used to think the same way as you.....we've even spoken about it before.. But Then I thought you had seen the light, had a On the Road to Damascus Moment

and realised that those 240 just too un-cool looking to be worthy of consideration....I thought you had grasped the idea of stylishness and the cool factor being a major consideration...
You even posted likely car on that other thread to some really sensible candidates for worthy rally cars..
Let's review some of those cars you posted and look in detail at why they are so much better than some old box Volvo:

Take into consideration this car is SMOG EXEMPT meaning you NEVER have to smog the car.
As for the trades I am looking for, I would like a car that wont have trouble getting smoged. Over all looking for a nice dd No track cars please and am open to strait trade over trades + cash on your end.

Now that's a car with a ton-o-cool just dripping off it. Think of all the attention that'd get!

Let's look at some of the others you linked to:

Here's a nuther fine example:

And here's a real race car---not some car that has been rightfully described as " the missionary position of the the car industry, not some car for the class skipping, assignment extension begging, Derrida mis-quoting, rent dodging, chain smoking, PBR swilling scenesters."
This is a real car---with style

1971 Datsun 510 drive : rwd fuel : gas transmission : manual title status : parts only cylinders : 4 cylinders
The car presented is a very unique 1971 Datsun 510 race car. Upon observation one can observe that the car has a nontraditional appearance showing wider fenders, larger tires and a much more International look.

The car has a full roll cage with NASCAR style cage bars at the driver's door. The weight of the vehicle is approximately 1,700 lbs.. There is a full fire suppression system on board. The exterior body panels are comprised of 9 removable fiberglass panels. Fuel is delivered by an electric pump plumbed to an ATL fuel cell.

The rear differential is a spool. Gear ratio is unknown but believed to be in the 3.50 area. Braking is by disc with Wilwoods' at the front. The gearbox is a 5 speed from a 280 Z. Safety wise, a 5 point belt system with window screen has been installed.

The present engine is approximately 2200 cc and has only dyno time on it. The engine build was thru Les Cannady out of Oceanside, California. Les is the builder and also maintains all of Adam Carolla's Datsun race cars. The paint is new and there is no Clear Coat sprayed thus when damages need to be repaired, problems should not exist. New Lexan windows have been installed throughout with safety hold downs as shown. A new lightweight battery mounted to the floor of the passenger side fires up the car. Horsepower ratings via engine dyno are documented as 207 HP at the flywheel. The car can only be run on 110 leaded.

This car is part of my collection of race cars. The reason that I have decided to sell this car is that I have become exclusively addicted to high horsepower cars. In the 1960's I personally raced Mini Coopers and developed an ability to drive "momentum cars" but now in later life I do not feel that previous talent will come back to me.

This is a "One of a Kind" car.

This car will be sold on a "Bill of Sale" basis. Asking price is. $24,999. All offers considered. Please email or call if you have any questions. I'm Sandy and I am assisting the seller with marketing this car. We can assist in arranging shipping anywhere in the world.

Thanks for checking out this one of a kind sedan racer.

This car is stage ready. It would take the G2 comp by storm. I mean look at it. It's linked to the most boring comedian in all of human history.

Now hypocrite, I will say this once and I better not have to say it again.

This is a Volvo 240. Notice how boxy and uncool this is.

This is a Datsun 510. Notice how the car isn't boxy and is dripping out of its panel gaps with coolness? Do you see the difference?

I will say this once and I don't want you fawking up poor people's threads again you slut.

I want you sell that POS orange Volvo you picked up for $500 and start looking for something with style. I'm glad you threw your hammer and those gross tacky wrenches away..they were just too un-cool.

Now I know what you're gonna say that the Volvos have dominated club level rally in Sweden for 20 years now and that 50-60% of the whole fields are 240s, 740s and 940s and they are popular because of the dollar/fun ratio...
But! As you need to learn everybody says "that's there, not here!" And I know you, you argumentative bastid, you're gonna counter with what I said so many times, twisting my words to meet your ends, "that gravel is gravel, tires are tires and people are people and those people go like stink.."

But that's there, thing are obviously different here.. It goes without saying....that's why nobody has ever said what the differences are, you silly bastid.

Here style is king...

I’ve been playing with 2-stroke dirtbikes in the woods. I still have that car parked at a friends shop.

Funnily enough, I was just browsing the forum again thinking “I really need to go rally racing finally”
