Razor is basically the wheelbase of a Mk 2 Escort. How about an Escort body like this trophy truck? Look at posts 246 and 253 for some interesting rally related tidbits.

They are already legal to run at rally idaho in 800 or over 800 class. Carl Marcum was a minute slower overall than Derick Nelson in his M3 (who were also 3rd and 4th overall) they scoot right along, but Carls big complaint is that the top speed just wasn't there in the straights. I think he mentioned an 80 mph top speed, he's also running without notes btw.

There are also a bunch of short course races you can run with them in the PNW, and you can take them hunting and camping, and the small ones will fit in the back of a pickup.

Adding body work is kinda dumb though. Add a couple bars to the cage and run em.

If you could get them street legal as a kit car, it would open up a lot of venues. Can't do that with open bodywork.

They can be licensed and operated as a street legal vehicle in idaho and areas of washington as is. Most states have a fair weather law anyway in regards to specialty vehicles, and vary state to state. Michigan for instance requires a glass windshield for a utv to be street legal idaho needs blinkers, brake lights and mirror... depends on the state, but 90% no body work required. Don't make it's something it's not. If you want fancy bodywork on yours go for it, but what we need to do is open up more rallies to the idea.

edit: wife was rushing me. that seems to read harshly. Point is they make a pretty damn good rally car as is.

Agree. We've run them at Sandblast. East coast's laws are typically not as libertarian as on your side of the Mississippi.

There is always a way around things. I was told up and down left and right that a two stroke RM 250 could not, would not ever get plated. 8 minutes at my local dmv and I was on the road plated and legal armed with the right info. (also the only time ever in my life I've ever been to an empty dmv)

If you ask him about it he says the Co-driver weighs too much.

So I just picked up one of those foreign make dune buggy's for free. In really nice shape other than the honda clone engine isn't healthy. I'm half tempted to see if I can track down a 450-600cc something or other and seeing if I cant go run the thing in the UTV class at idaho... Rally ready for 1000$???
