A few shops: Trackside Motorsports, Primitive Motorsports, PSI (kind of). I'm sure I'm forgetting a few others.

Individual people: Lots.

Is Shanghai'd bar still downtown? I used to go there pretty often when I'd visit.
Yes, Shanghai Tunnel is still there (in fact I was there just last week) (yes, it's the basement bar by Berbati's; alas Berbati's doesn't do live music any more as I think Voodoo Donuts took over that space).

Hope you are enjoying the Portland/Vancouver area, Andrew. Give a shout if you want to meet up some time.

Any more room in that shop for another person? Our landlord recently decided that he doesn't want to rent shop space to car people, so I'm trying to find a workshop area in the Portland area where I can play with rally cars.

Unfortunately, no....it's a private garage in Camas that I’m temporarily squatting in..

That is never fun. I found that finding places that are managed by the owner usually result in better relationships long term. Oh, and keeping shit tidy and looking good, especially from the outside.

The best shops in terms of location and price we found by driving around and calling numbers from the sign on the side of the building. LoopNet is good for getting an idea of the high side of what rates are. Craigslist is pretty useless for hobby shop space.

So here's a cheap and weird shop space idea. All over North Portland there are truck yards and many of them will let you rent yard space. The yard my company uses has a towing company and a car shipping company on either side of our space. We have two 40ft shipping containers, one for storage and one we turned into a workshop and office. The guys running the tow company use old beatup motor homes as their office. We all have power. We pay around 180 a month for the space we take up in the yard. So rig up a carport, throw down a shipping container or trailer or motorhome and voila. Cheap per month if you already have a trailer or container. White trash as hell but it works. Our lot even has security gates and keycards.

No wonder we get along.

Working on the beast today, so if you want to check out the yard space we have it's five minutes from the house. Hit me up.
