Amateur European style RallyCross in America!
August 30, 2015 11:55AM
It looks like after the post NJMP hiatus, amateur european style rallycross (ala Top Gear) is back in the states! These guys don't seem to be doing too much promotion on rally anarchy or special stage, so I figured I'd help them and the sport out by spreading the word. The most recent event was at Rolling Wheels Raceway in upstate NY, hopefully it expands across the NE from there. Check it out!

They even have one of them fancy internets sites: AmericanRally-Cross.com

Here's Brakim Racing's video from the July event. It looks like they ran a mostly oval configuration, I'm not sure why, since in other videos they have a more involved/interesting course layout. I guess maybe it wasn't completed.

August 2015 course layout

Hope this catches on...

180$ for entry and 30$ per body to get into the pits. Bonus is that more than half the cars are 2wd.

Last event they posted a similar course layout, but then got turned into an oval for the actual event, hope that doesn't happen again

Saw the picts on facebook... seemed like a number of car fires during the event and a good bit of body work required by some afterwards.

Looks a lot like ice racing here in MN. Except the tracks are a better layout on the lakes. Door to door like that and ice racing look like a helluva lot of fun, but I wouldn't do it in my stage car. The cars get beat to shit too much.

Indeed... I wasn't born with the right parents to do demolition derby with expensive cars.

at an am level there should be no contact ala road racing. like sprint cars, surface change don't change the rules. this was a demo our rally (cross) club does at a local fun race night.
I've been hounding them for years to take this format opposed or another series aside grass o cross. i can't get with the chump car and lemons ideal. (my apologies) after running karts for a summer it doesn't really light a fire

I don't know what the magic number is in the "you yell 'i can't see!!!' X times before you slow down or pull over" but I think what we saw there was some amount higher than X.

Grassroots rally. It's what I think about.

"Should be" doesn't mean "is". Spec Pinata didn't get its nickname for nothing...

I count 7 "I can't see anythings" followed by 4 "Fucks!" and then a special blend of the the 2 intersparsed... smiling smiley

Did he have any windshield washer action happening at all or was it just ineffective?

My posting that wasn't really pointed at the driver.

Mike it looked like he had the fluid going, but that track has some kind of 'synthetic clay' on it. It was explained to me as basically having wax mixed into it. That might explain the glue-like consistancy.

Bad weather is what it is, But that didn't look like much fun to me...

Are they planning on making a little traveling series? I can probably get events at 2 places here in MI. One would be all dirt at a motor cycle TT track the other would be mixed surface at a paved oval track.

Funny guys crying they don't want to bend the sheet metal on there car yet are willing to take the same car and run thru the woods at 90mph!

Running through the woods, at 90mph, generally poses no issue, so long as you do your job. Running wheel to wheel with a bunch of other cars, many of whom haven't ever run wheel to wheel before, can be a problem, no matter how well you do your job.
