The event does its best to be 2wd friendly.
Studs are over-rated - the winning cars have all been on studless tires every year it's been run. Yeah yeah, whatever....you know all about the studs used in the civilised parts of the world.. You say they're over-rated. THEY ask "What's wrong with all those guys (a Swede who had seen Slo-drift on You-tube)--they're so slow? All of them There has to be something wrong. Why?" When it was explained that there were no studs in Wawwy Amewica Events he just could not believe it.. Same response everytime I explain it.. What did he know anyway.... And sure the cars run studless..against other studless cars... Come on Morison, you're making you're name far too ironic. In the land of blind men, a one-eyed man is King. We can run studs up here? As in rally tires or street studs? Man I'd love to run rally studs on mine. Power means nothing if you cannot control it! |

I believe that some street type studs are allowed on 2wd cars maybe regional only.. But not the good stuff. Too much fun. What would happen if everybody thought these were fun? I've heard that Sno*Drift isn't all that fun in 2WD but I had a lot of fun running 2WD at Big White two years ago. I think all the 2WD cars were running studs though. I know I was and Taisto was. I think the cars that were running studless were all AWD and on Yoko 15" tires.
Granted, I've done exactly one (1) snow and ice event, but I'm not sure I'd want to run studless in a 2WD car. It was way too easy to spin the drive wheels and I suspect that both the weight and the grip of the AWD cars makes a big difference in their ability to take advantage of the studless tread. I don't really know - when it comes to those sorts of conditions I don't really know my heiny from a hole. I think if I were in your shoes, John, I'd wander over and see if Garth will let you borrow the Saab. Self-righteous douche canoe |

Likely see faster times than gravel! Snow banks plus tons of traction are a fun mix. Power means nothing if you cannot control it! |

Stop trolling and try and keep this civilized. I'm doing my best to play nice and you're baiting me at every chance. In the context of the studs that are legal at Big White... THOSE studs are over rated when compared to a good studless rally snow tire (YokoAO34.) As a stand-alone regional - Big White allows any car to run street legal studs... but not the 'good' studs. It's been mentioned here before, and is available on the web, but... 130 count max, 3.5mm max relief from treadface, commonly available 'road' studs with a circular cross section and no 'blades' or voids.) Yah, what would I know about Big White, the typical road conditions, and actually competing on the studded tires allowed in Canada. (If you weren't aware... I've been to Big White once or twice) You'll probably tangent off on a rant about how stupid it is to not allow proper studded tires... and for now... that's irrelevant. (But you try and explain to the budget team why they have to spend a couple grand just for specialty tires and rims for the event) First Rally attended (2000), First Rally competed in (2001) Cars Built (1), Engines Built (0) Cages Built (0) Driver (8), Co-Driver (47), Drivers (19) Clerk (29), Steward (1), Official (17), Volunteer (5) WRC Spectator (1), WRC Photographer (6), WRC Observer (4) Rallies attended (120) Countries attended rallies in (11) Last Updated, May30, 2022 Edited 1 time(s). Back to the blah blah Morison we all know so well... Budget. Pffft, People can spend ridiculous amounts of money for new cars and $8000 for Reiger suspension and who knows what for gravel tires.... Snows last for more than one event just fine as long as there is ice and snow... (But since you know all, you know what the fun ones cost and how well they work and last, dontcha.) Doesn't hold water, Morison...how do those taxed to death Squareheads and herring-chokers afford them? Maybe they chose to have fun... And quit being yourself. Look at the above reactions in response. (you don't think it would cost less to get snow good real tires than top rent a 4wd car?) Children my ass. Morison needs to learn that his place and that is not cluck clucking and spouting Ther Party Line and his endless obviousnesses.. Budget. Maybe that applies to some but certainly most people remaining active waste piles of money for all kinds of ---judging by their "modest" speeds ---frivolous things... Winter rally on proper studs holds for the whole rest of the world---which Morison clearly never bothers to make any effort to read or talk to others anywhere---a special mystique.. Here its a bullshit crap shoot and his bullshit about budget fails on the fact that people have to buy the specialized, good for short use only on snow , new "special snows". Just typical Morison bullshit. He should just shut the fuck up on anything other that his job. Especially when I was addressing John Reed, a thoughtful guy who I know and respect and enjoy talking with---not him... And maybe learn to explore some of the rest of the world outside of his little prairie cultural ghetto. Hey what is happening with that Chevy Sonic whatever thing? talking of 2016 plans....which is the point of the thread-- -not Morisons repetition of the obvious. This Morrison has a different plan for 2016. If you watched the video you saw the roll. Trying to figure out if the shell is salvageable. Caging a new shell might be quicker and cheaper. We'd love to do the full Cascadia Cup if possible but all the US events at a minimum. |
