With a bit of 'between the lines, but almost within the lines' reading it looks much more like the Foggs are dissipating and the new 'not-for-profit, member driven' association is bringing together the pieces. This is probably a good thing once it is all said and done.

The press release = super not helpful. The FAQs? Super helpful! http://www.americanrallyassociation.org/faq-1 Additionally, Martin said ARA was consulting with CARS which is promising. One could only dream that a member based association started guiding rally in the USA again. Interestingly enough, rumor says Ford may be the factory "oem" sponsor... so what happens to Subaru? Do they still keep racing? And further to that, I really don't want to see Open class go away Of course, it would be interesting to see things steered more towards an international style of vehicles being used. Considering a R5 is mandated at $180k euros, some of the top open class cars (for sure Antoine's old evo, the current SRTC car, SRTUSA, FY Racing, Nick Roberts, etc etc) start to close in on that amount, let alone the development work/wasted time and events. But that's just me spit-balling. I do not want to see cars limited to NLO (which in my mind is just groupN+). |

NLO is still open for engines, sequential trans, etc. I'd prefer to be allowed to make bodywork changes in NLO but things like requiring stock hubs, stock subframes and not being allowed to hack away 50% of the car to tube frame the rest of it are good ways to keep the spending in check IMO. SP seems to be more of the warmed over GrpN. |

Looks like Rally America and American Rally Association are not on as good terms as ARA would like you to believe.

So what, we have RA, ARA, NASA, and SCCA (rallysprints) now? How the hell do we have more sanctioning bodies than polticial parties....

And you still missed one. A year or two ago I counted up how many championships you could run IN THE US and it was 17 or 18 or something silly. That number will need revision I suppose. Grassroots rally. It's what I think about. |
