On the white car...I thought it was pretty crazy that he's using urethane sheeting (like is used for mudflap material) as his rear diff gaurd.

That stuff is pretty tough..but is it that tough?

http://www.renault12gordini.com/r12gr2/guards.htm
it's here in the gaurds section, 4th picture over in the first row.

He is only protecting the rear suspension and beam as its a FWD car no diff in the rear to protect.

I have Dacia (Romanian built Renault 12 sort of) in the barn mint condition as far as the body is concerned, engine and trans are fucked.

I grew up on the left side of Yonge street and can't recall EVER seeing any car that remotely looks like one of those and I like to think I have a pretty good memory for that sort of thing. Were they ever somewhat common over here?

Ya they were common for about 2 minutes. Sold in 1982 to 1984. The strongest sales year was 1983 with about 700 cars sold in Canada. They faded away after that as Skoda was outselling them big time.

Oh ya, I also have a 1987 Skoda Rapid 2 door hatch style and 1989 Skoda 135 GLS (fuel injected rear engine) sedan.

Hey I like fucking quirky cars.
