2008 Doo Wop video

The Burress brothers show how to go fast at Tahola. Skill, and drive your car in anger - like you hate the thing. Fun to watch the abuse. That is one rough stage.

Dougs mazda had its normal codriver driving. That is most likely the root of the problem. Two offs, first time since doug bought the car that it has seen any damage.

I didn't talk much to Dan (the RX7). We were all just getting them ready to go to get tugged out by sweep, so they could continue. He may have said intercom issues, but I don't remember. He should have know better about that corner - I know he's seen video from previous years.

That corner can be deceptive - just ask Derek. The route book has a caution: stump at apex, so many people don't cut it like they need to.

As far as the red subie, what do you say to someone you don't know? Dude, you just locked the brakes and plowed striaght into that tree. Don't you know a car aint going to turn when the front wheels aren't turning?

Boff - you must have watched Batman as a kid too.

In the route book the turn looks like a fast right and it is but the apex is much later then it looks, it is slippery and even more slippery out of the line, downhill after a very fast (top of 4th so 91 MPH) uphill section in the sun with very good grip.

So everything changes there, you have been blasting along in the 80 to 90 MPH range with good grip and going up hill then all the sudden you need to slow to say 35 to 40 for this turn but you are still in the mode of I can drive this at 60.

So you turn in earlly and all looks good but then you get to the real turn much later about 50 feet later then where you thought the turn was (decreesing radius) with too much speed not going sideways enough and little tools left in the box to get the rear end out and make it around the turn. Brakes are late as you are in the turn and tend to in that location cause understeer (plow into the wall) power in FWD causes more Understeer (into the wall) In RWD add power but in FWD it reuires real left foot braking something I did not manage to do right but then again I was going like 20 MPH too fast and that is just hard to deal with no matter what.

So why was Mike S not there to get my real big moment on TV that year?

In the long run reality always wins.

Derek,
I think that year we actually ran Crane creek. I had to haul ass from there to Tahola and just barley made it to the spectator area.
