Nice tools smiling smiley
April 19, 2008 09:30AM
I picked up a used (but freshly rebuilt) air compressor. My old one was a Craftsman 30 gallon 5.5 hp 120v oil-less. 9 years old and took 6 minutes 25 seconds to get to 120 psi.

New one is a 8 gallon 230v oiled two stage that will do 15.5 CFM at 100 psi.

It took 45 seconds to get to 120 psi. smiling smiley (yes, of course, the volume is different. At 15.5 cfm I don't care. smiling smiley )

And best of all it's a ***XXX***RIDICULOUS***XXX*** amount quieter. That old craftsman sounded like it, well, crap, I barely know, because I had to wear ear protection and STILL my ears were ringing. The new one is much more civilized. smiling smiley

Ahhhhhhhh, life is good. smiling smiley

I am still kicking myself for choosing a new single stage (60 gal 7HP) which makes lots of hot, wet air while screaming away instead of waiting to find a used two-stage. Those lug-chuggers are much easier on the ears...

I had a Craftsman one similar to your old one. I would keep it in the living room of my 600 sq. ft duplex and run the hose outside. I bet you'd be clinically deaf within about 5 minutes if you'd stayed inside while it was running. A friend gave it to me and told me I could pay him $100 if I wanted to buy it. I chose not too.

I seem to always forget to turn mine off at night. Nice wake up call at 3am.

I have to hook my 220v compressor up to the clothes dryer plug when I need it, so I never have to worry about leaving it plugged in (unless I don't want dry laundry).

One of these years I need to get a couple more circuits wired in. The 110v MIG welder can't run very long at full voltage before the breaker trips.

Get a timer, they're like $12, and it will never turn on at night:

Wusses !!!

Shameless weakass wusses !!!

I like my loudashelltakesforevertofillbutrunsnonetheless Craftsman compressor. My neighbor never complained about the noise, well not only he is my ex-codriver but also he is kinda deaf in one ear. Me, I can sleep through any noise if I know what's the cause.

First they shaved his beard, then they made him buy a politically correct compressor, what's next ? Electric powered rally cars ? Tsk tsk tsk....... grinning smiley
