aw fawk!

Looks like they're out. According the RA website news:

Burress/Burress have rolled on SS2 (April 19th, 2008, 9:03PM)

The Fine Tuning Demon Rally Team failed to finish Stage 2of the Olympus Rally after a massive roll. Both Tom and Don are sore yet unhurt. The team has packed up the car and are ready to join the spectators for Day Two.

The team would like to thank Fine Tuning, Bow Wow, Spitfire, Les Schwab, as well as their friends, family and crew for all of their help preparing the car. The team is looking forward to building a new Group 2 Assault Vehicle soon.

Man, that sucks.
Mk2 and Mk4 are the only two I'd consider. Unless you already have a Mk3 that was nearly free.
Salta Motorsports in Denver have a Mk4 sitting down at their shop stripped and being prepared to put a cage in it. They're just waiting for someone who wants to buy it, if you need a shell that is.

Yeah but he was frank about it, "The way I'm going, I'm going destroy this thing".
He already has another shell, we've talked about trying to really make that strong, and getting some decent suspenders and control arms and a strong rear beam in the car.

That's the best attitude to have.
I really wish I could figure out a way to afford the Davesport shell for the same reason.

John looks great. Second place overall in the first regional behind Fox/Blattner(not in the 2002!) by just 4 seconds. Next two wheel drive is nearly three minutes back.

Consistently 12/13 overall stage times, has been swapping times all day with Ecklund/Price in the new 08 STi.

Burress and Gottlieb, I know you both run with on board cameras, We are anxiously waiting to marvel at your downfalls. Glad you are all ok.

Damn cold! I should be seeing this stuff in person.

Sorry to hear of the Rabbit's demise, and glad nobody was hurt.

May all its expensive go-fast bits be usable on a Mk 2 shell.

Re: Burress' rolled?

We're doing fine....we were doing about 45-55mph, got out of shape on a right 4, then over corrected and got really early for the apex of the next corner....full throttle opposite lock, berm on the inside of the turn so it wasn't a good place to cut. We hit my left front first, that sent us into a spin, tagged the right front, dug into the berm kicked the car over passenger side first, and really taking me for a ride on the roll...only one roll, just straight on to the top front of the cage and onto the main hoop. With the remaining momentum we spun on the top directly into the center of the road. We were out right away, to start getting the rest of the field slowed down to get around the car.

After the car was tugged back over by sweep I finally got to take a look at the carnage. Really, all it seems like is body damage. The car seems semi-straight, but every panel on the car is damaged, there are three pieces of glass left in the car, the two wing windows in the doors and my roll up window. The front of the car is three or four inches lower, the passenger side of the car is tilted in on the cage, and the roof in the back is really crunched up. The cage has some paint coming off in places, but there is no visible deformation, OMG a 1.5" tubing cage did its job very well...

I think the car is possibly fixable if someone wanted to re-shell the thing, but I think we are going to focus on some other options right now, try and gather up a game plan for the next car. I'll get some images up here in the next few days, unfortunately the camera didn't get the roll because the recorder became unplugged and didn't save the footage....it wouldn't have been all that dramatic I don't think though.

We have a golf III shell at the shop right now, so we'll see.

I don't think we experienced the forces necessary to really test the HNR thing....I think we would have been in trouble without the cage though. The hardest hit I felt was smacking the ground upside down...hearing the roof cave and all the glass taking a vacation was neat though

At least you rolled it in the right direction.

Did ANYONE get the roll on film? Cuz, y'know, it doesn't count if no one saw it. Schroedinger's Rabbit.

We'll be expecting a new picture in the Rally Anarchy banner shortly.

Tom, did the HANS make any difference as to how easy or difficult it was to get outta the car?
