STPR Super-Special stage?

Does this look super-special to you guys? Looks super lame-O to me.
Is this what US forest rallying has come to?

Looks like a poorly designed rally-X course. Look at the two corners that run-off the outside into each other. I think they were drinking confiscated beer before they plowed that. And STPR used to have hundreds of miles of really smooth fast stage roads through 3 state forests.

Would you pay over a $1000 to run that? I'll spend my money at Baie!

Is that the whole event or is that just a spectator friendly 'in a field close to town' sort of stage?

I know Rim one year lost its roads (not much you can do when they pull the permits with a week to go heh) and ran the entire event as a glorified rally cross, so it's happened.

It is just for spectators. There are other roads being used. With the loss of roads used in previous years, the spectaor points are even more limited than in the past.

That's cool, the spectators get to run the rally-X. Is there timing eqiuipment? I hope they put some jersey barriers between the two corners that are too close together.

i fail to see how those two corners will be an issue as they are immedeately before and after a hairpin and i would imagine there will only be one car on course at a time.

Well I'd imagine it too.
But who knows what they'll actually do.

What if one gets delayed or disoriented or a following one jumps the start? I still say it is an unnessessary and unsafe design. If they used a safer design they could have more than one car on course, at a time, which is more interesting for the spectators and would allow for more competitors to run the thing in less time. In Quebec, they would have 5 cars on it at once!

Just my 2 cents.

Ted, I don't think the spectators are doing any thing more than watch the Super Special. I haven't looked to see what the layout is so you are more informed about the possibility of running more than one car at a time than I am. It would be fun for the spectators if they could run 2 rally cars at a time like was being done on the Pro Solos with SCCA.

real simple way to avoid any issue. dont start the second car untill the first car has completed that hairpin.

Hey, I think that I saw two rally cars hit each other on TV last summer.

I've been called worse than an agitator. :-)

If I plowed that course, I know that I would have gotten some flack for it.

I remember starting a stage which ran through the paper mill then down Main Street in Rumford, Maine. We used 30 second intervals to keep things interesting. We did this sucessfully (I think) for several years. I think that was probably more fun.

I say they try to start them at a time where competitors end up coming at each other into those hairpins. That'd at least be exciting to watch.

I would start a car at each end at the same time, call it something like, "Chicken Sport" or "Biggest Balls" and sell it to the FOX network as "Reality Rally"!

As always IMHO
