It's been too long...

In preparation for the hill climb this weekend, I had to go watch some more Mikko Kauppinen videos. Fuck, I always forget how ridiculous his driving is. And how amazing the roads are. Look at how smooth he is in this car compared to his old Starlet. If you remember his in car from the old Starlet that is.

Nice....I like the one corner in the beginning where he's fully committed on a fast left, facing a brick wall with spectators.......don't fuck up!

Good times.

I went through the videos on the site for a bit. This one really cemented my decision to go Ovlov.

RWD with no restrictor just seems moar bitchin.

I think it's pretty safe to say he's going nearly flat out smiling smiley

Imagine what he would do to a rally field over here.

Yeah he's not sawing on the wheel, basically period. That could also be due to steering ratio and driver competence. I'm not arguing that the car isn't setup well, it obviously is!

Dude. Looking through the pictures/video section on his website, it looks like he might do as many as three events in January alone.

Wouldn't that be nice?

I watched this video about 10 times before the hill climb this weekend and I can honestly say that it actually helped me, if not for nothing more than trying to remain more in control and try to by smoother. Didn't help for shit on the five hairpins, but I felt much more comfortable and was faster through everything else. Good enough to win more money than I spent this weekend by taking second place in 2WD.

Remember that he's driving a KP61 Starlet, last built in 1984. OE engine for most of the world was a 1200CC 3KC. Here they were 1300CC 4KC engines. There were
1500CC 5KC and even 1800KC 7KC. I've also seen 4AGE 1600CC twin cam swaps into that chassis. Homologation is good for what 10 years? The chassis is out of homolation which would make any enigne swap legal for a club-type class. The result is still a small light chassis with a strong engine.
I did find the shift light interesting, something I hadn't noticed in US rally cars. Usefull or not? A bit of a PITA on a night stage. I suppose it could be disconnected for night stages.

The first video posted is his new BMW M3, the second is his old Starlet. Well, his second one anyhow. The Starlet videos are amazing, but he looks like he's working so much less hard in the BMW. The Starlet was a 4AGE with Ohlins and the M3 has Rallysystems 50s and a stock german M3 engine. Both cars had dogboxes from Selholm.
