I have been talking to a friend in Europe about importing a rally car maybe two... Not your typical well known car but more off beat, parts would not be a problem as I have good contacts. Here is some pics, not of the actual cars but the type of model(s)...
What u think, specialy JVL and Sagsert as you guys may be more familiar with these... ...If you don't go off at least once a season you are not trying hard enough... Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/23/2006 09:16PM by GB. |

A VFTS or a FAVORIT ???
You are a brave man my friend. I rallied both when the parts were kinda like next door but I wouldn't do it in the US. I'll get you the links for the regulations but it's a bitch. Be forewarned. Cheers M.Samli Phoenix AZ Gaylant VR4 EVO III GSR (Stolen) Rallies are no place for traitors |

Boy I rode in a Skoda 130 Super Estelle one noght along a road heading towards Sarajevo with a drunk but steady driver returning from his friends marriage, super curvy crazy road, car was stabil and one a road that narrow and bumpy was fast feeling.
The did sell them at least in Vancouver. 3 main bearing Renault "de Origine" R5 motor 1300, available manifolds for 2 x 45 DCOEs stock 4 piston calipers and light accurate steering. YEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeHaaaaw with about 125 bhp. Twenty- how- many times did Skoda win 1.3 class in a row, many time in top 10 EVEN against the GpB cars!!!! Now a Lada, is just asking for a Lampredi 1800 twin cam, some downdraft 48s, and a good box (its a licence built ZF in the Italian Fiats.) I knew guys who said back in the day in the old Soviet Union in the Leningrad distric rallys in summer they'd get just over 300 cars on Thursday evening events. 99% Ladas. I asked what sorta motors and he said most guys ran the single cam but a number managed via connections (everything in the old Soviet days depended on "connections" to get Twin cam heads and manifolds and carbies and shorter ring and pinions. The normal diddle was truckers going to Hungary or Bulgaria meeting up with truckers going back to Italy. Some pipe-line. Reall rally guys figure stuff out! Either one could be a heap of fun. (But I'd get something I could pick up another roller for nuthing) In the end more people are excitied by how YOU DRIVE the car than the cars rarity (locally). In UK events with 80% Escorts, nobody squawks cause a giuy shows up in another Escort, but they jump up and down when its pitched sideways well before a corner..... Actualy it would not be too dificult to bring into Canada where I live, I have already checked into it as both Skoda ('83 -'89) and Ladas ('78? - '95) were sold here.
The Skoda is not a Favorit but a 130L as John stated. The one in the photo apparently has 1600 motor from the Felicia about 150-160HP (expensive) still rear engine and the guys that modify them call it a 130L EVO II . The Skodas are harder to find now as they were sold for a shorter time than the Ladas but. With the Ladas the problem is finding a solid shell that hasn't been eaten up by the rust gremlins. However, a friend whos family owns a scrap yard, I mean vehicle recycling yard (fucking political correctness) can locate decent examples when some old fogey calls him up to get rid of it from the front yard. For now I am just thinking of doing this, I still realy want to do the V8 Mustang for rally (currently being set up for cone squishing). A mint example of the Lada VFTS with the proper gearbox and engine would cost me around $10-12K including shipping, insurance and customs duties. The Skoda depending on the type could be as low as $5k for a decent 1300cc like John mentioned to as much as $15-18K with the Felicia 1600cc F2 motor. I would definately have to drive eiter one very sideways with the LOUD pedal always to the floor to get major fucking grin factor from within the car as well as from the spectators outside just like those crazy Finns. Will see eh! ...If you don't go off at least once a season you are not trying hard enough... Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/25/2006 02:59PM by GB. |

Here is two more videos with the Ladas.
First one is of an intown spectator stage (sort of) in the Budapest Rally, national Hungarian rally. The last car #98 is good friend that lives in former Yugoslavia and enters rallies regularly in Hungary. http://www.toljadneki.hu/download/videok/2005/budapest_rally_05/toljadneki_movie_bpr_prolog_lada_toma_05.wmv Second is of few guys fooling around with their Ladas. http://www.toljadneki.hu/download/videok/2005/lada_talalkozo_05/toljadneki_movie_ladatalalkozo_05.wmv Lets hope the posts work . ...If you don't go off at least once a season you are not trying hard enough... |

First one didn't woyk for me.
I hope the music choice is better on the first one, Kalinka doesn't sit well with motorsports. I waited and waited to see the Calibra run, alas it was a tease. Since the format for FIA Rally Guide 2 has a section for "importing stuff", I did research on this. There's some documentation and links on this within the Rally Guide 2 for Sandblast Rally. Check Section 13. http://sandblastrally.com/2006/rally-guide.cfm Cheers, Anders Grassroots rally. It's what I think about. |
