Preparing for Safari Rally in Kenya
February 27, 2006 09:16AM
In a move to be the first American to compete in the Safari rally in Kenya since David Carradine in that one movie where his main competitor looked like he was straight out of Spaceballs, we have started preparing our suspension for this task. Team driver Grant Hughes stated, "We are really excited to go to Kenya. I've always wanted to see Africa and I've had this dream since I was young that some day I would drive under an elephant." The team has the suspension raised, but is still awaiting sponsorship to finance the expedition.

On another note, John, look at the pics below along with the email I sent you this morning. For some reason the pics couldn't send via email?

i love the fact that the limiting thing in the suspension is the brake lines.

what a weekend!

Grannie, (you don't mind if I call you "Grannie" do you?, Good)
The way I am going to it is , once again, to copy the woiks Frods and make the new position for the lower bolt DOWN and slightly (1/4~~~ish) REAR WARDS like the super insane bitching magnesium GpA trailing arms.
Those steelie 50mm things are 0,2" longer that the sooooooooper cooler magnesium Bilsteins I have but the machined bodies make better clearance than the welded on eyelets of the steel bodies things.
So Down and back.

This was how we ended up doing it.

Of course, I think we started on the bracket at about 2 am and realized afterward we should have made the mounting sport much lower and could have cleaned up the brackets quite a bit.

If you look at where the bracket was on my control arm and this one that I stole from John's website you can see how mine was in a different spot on the control arm! The driver's side new bracket is welded over where the passenger side old bracket was, and we have about a mm of clearance between the sheet metal and the spring.
