Grant hughes selling his car???

Grant whatta ya doing??? I understand completely where you're coming from. I've sorta followed your story on here and you seemed to have what it takes to endure. You've got great fab skills, good connections for rally parts and you seem to be able to drive well and not fuck up the car. I really feel for you man. I was in the same position last year but with the severe depreciation of rally cars, it just wasn't worth it to sell it for a quarter of its cost.

But now that you'll have some spare time, could you make me a complete set of gussets?

I can always make gussets. Send me a PM with the angles you need. I still have quite a few laying around already.

I thought long and hard about it for well over a month about what I want right now. I wrote lots of essays and stream of thought stuff about happiness and what I want to do right now and how I'm not happy and totally stressed out. It kind of came down to three things to me that I associate with happiness. Women, rally cars, and money. I've tried the first two and well, just been fucked over by women, and the rally car is awesome and great the three to four times I've used it, but everytime I do an event I end up spending the next month broke as shit and nearly starving. Anyhow, I've decided to go for financial stability as my current goal. I doubt the car will sell and I'm not really negotiable, but I'm putting it out there. Basically my main focus for the next year or so is going to be to get as much out of debt as I can and try to make it to the point where maybe I have more than eighteen cents in savings. Even have considered bankruptcy.
Anyhow, if the car sells for what I'm willing to sell it for, cool. If not, I'll be racing it again next summer, but it's going to sit unused in my driveway all winter.

You live in the best place for owning a rally car. You have close cheap events!

Dont feel bad man. We're likely taking 2009 off too. It's been a hard year and qite a few people I spoke to at Prescott were in the same boat to a certain extent. The economy is nuts right now and rally can wait.

The way my retirement funds are shrinking by the second, I'm starting to think a rally car really would be a better investment...

You don't list your full real name, but if you are the Jack Russel buying an 87 RX7, you are purchasing a dependable / competitive car. Events are (relatively) cheap out here. Hopefully it won't lead to financial ruin, and we will see it out on the stages. You know the Hintz brothers had great success in that car - beating many of the "fast" AWD cars some years ago.

You, sir, made a good buy.

Hi Mike,

Yes, I that must be your brother Rick's RX7? I had been looking for a car since last spring and almost pulled the trigger a few times. Adam Crane recommended the RX7, and after briefly checking it out in person (at night) I found it to be a very well sorted package. I am just lucky it is relatively close to where I am so it was easy to do. Its a great opportunity to be able to jump on such a nice car.

I was close to preping a car myself, but buying a car with all the little things figured out seemed like the best way to go from a dollars/seat time perspective. I am sure I will still find plenty of ways to sink thousands of dollars and hours into a preped car anyway!

Was hoping to make a showing for at Hood, but just wouldn't be realistic. I will all but grantee a showing at Doo Wop, however. Should be a good time!

Hey Grant - while I don't know you, this makes me sad. But...rallying will always be there, and sometimes there are way more important things to take care of (says the guy who waited until 38 y/o to get involved). Do it when you can enjoy yourself - not stress over money and time. It's supposed to be fun, right?

In the meantime, you've got excellent placement on a great website:

Good luck, either way.

That is a cool website. Interestingly, it's already generated one email about the car, one more than I had before. smiling smiley

Trust me though, if I do sell the car, you will see me on more entry lists than ever before. Just as a codriver again.

Grant, as I said over on Merkusport, I feel for ya. I know where you're coming from but sure hope you find a way to keep her. As others have said, just lay low for a year. I think that is exactly what we may have to do. Targa was great but just WAY to damn expensive. I think we will go back to our roots and run a limited number of regional gravel events here in Ontario before branching out further.
Maybe some day the 2 of us can be at the same event.
Ever given any though to coming out here to spectate Tall Pines??? I have a place you can stay.
