Stumbled upon this today... Just to share and make sure you guys who want 'em know that they're out there.

http://www.autotech.com/quaife/index2.htm

and then I read on and find out they're for manual steering racks only.

WHY?

I'm guessing because manual racks are easier to f k with (relatively speaking) since they don't have seals and fluid and hoses etc.., Also, power racks are typically quicker ratio than their manual counterparts to begin with, so there's less incentive for someone to make a quick power rack for the above mentioned reason. I might even guess that the "quick rack" gears for the manual rack is really just the the power rack gears, modified to fit the manual rack.

No, the VW power racks are a smidge over 3 turns lock to lock while the Quaiffe manual thing is 2.5.

REAL VW Motorsport rackes were what 1,9 turns power.

That's what my 4x4 Cossie rack is vs stocker 2,7

The steering column shafts are different lengths... I THINK the p/s is longer. I dont remember... but one of them is shorter then the other.

This table from Quaife's web site lists the lock to lock number of turns for the VW quick rack at 2.9-3.1. Why the range and not one number, I'm not sure. But I do know that I measured my power rack at exactly 3.1 turns. That's what led me to suspect they may just be modifying the VW power rack gear to fit in the VW manual rack. I'm ok with being wrong, I've never actually disassembled either rack to see how they fit together, the numbers just make it look suspicious to me.

John if you could manage to scare up quick guts for Volvo for the TRW racks you could sell over a hundred of them.

The quickrack you had built for my 240 (ten years ago?) has been flawless.

Tom, must be a typo cuase when Derek Bottles and I were slamming a buncha parts in his second Golf, one of those things was a Quaiffe quick rack kit, and it was about 2.5 turns.
It was realy funny cause at the time of the appropriately named SS.com there was a huge amount of speculation and I sorta asked, what the fuck with the speculation and "Opinions" , go out in the garage and turn the gawddam wheel and COUNT!

Too funny when boys were "like Wow its 3,2 " or whatever.

Bitchen. #150dollars

kris in canada recirculating his fluid might be interested "only" 280 dollars.
but I dont think corolla manual racks are that easy to find.

I've got these guts in the garage as we speak and hang up is finding the zf rack that they were built for. Think they stopped using them in something like 76 then went to the cam style manual rack. Power steering would be quite nice but this quick man rack will be a huge improvement over whats in there now
