From the pictures HERE, meaning, I did NOT take the time to go look, I only see one stage with snow on the ROAD. IT's all over the ground, but on the actual road, I only see one stage.

Maybe they had a service, and then 2-4 stages before their next service. And with only one being snow, I would take the gravel tires over snow tires, as the gravel would eat the snow tires... which would then not work well in the snow...

Timmy, the only thing between Belgium and the North Pole is the tops of the waves. ALL of Western Europe is a MARITIME climate and storms blow in regularly and fast. February is W-i-n-t-e-r. Belgium is getting fairly NORTHERLY. The chance for snow in sorta Northern Europe is pretty high.
Seems a team which has the resources to build this car ought to have the planning resources to take some tires for all eventualities that are probable.

Snow is probable, been plenty of snow in the past at Spa.

Seems like there were some good cars there, too:

I'm not sure how far ahead they planned for this event. They were scrambling for last-minute parts and dealing with even more critical issues right up until they shipped out. Not fuel starving was higher on their list than snow tires, I think.

Bonehead move, to be sure, but those aren't always made by boneheads.

Sure, not arguing, but unless there are pictures I'm missing, I only see snow on one stage...

Why run snow tires on gravel for the rest of the stages just because its February in Belgium? Thats what I was getting at.

Whatever.
I'm also confused about the results seen here:
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4039/4374983293_033d0d963b_o.jpg
and the press Release which I immediately released.
The scores show OA in the 50th, 40 somethingth, then on 3rd satge 5th OA, then 39th-ish, 18th, then no more SS time, seems some screwy co-efficients thing

If this footage is at all representative, it appears that either the rx7 had some big handling issues, or just poor drivers - <3 minutes of footage, and almost half is spins and overcooked corners.

Way to over exaggerate. Only a few spins in there. A couple were a perfect setup for the next corner! And thoses cars were a real handful. Not a great handling car by design.

I agree.
Drive a car as hard as they were pushing, especially a short vile thing with recirculating BBs for steering and there's occasionally gonna be a few slip ups.

I was quite impressed.

Fantastic footage, wish there were enough events around for folks here to learn skills to push like that ...

Video loading now...

If that's the same car as posted on the first page, the recirc-ball slopfest was trashbinned sometime around 1984. I finally did that on my own car and, yeah, huge difference! Wish I'd done it far sooner.

95" wheelbase, at least street stock. Not sure if they altered that any on the rally cars.

Who knows what they did on a GpB car, but Nissan persevered with recirculating ball on the 240RS, probably Mazda did, too.

Oh rearry? What rack fits in an RX-7? How hard was the swap? That shitty steering is one of the big reasons I got rid of my RX-7 ~10 years ago.
