starting out

my father and i are looking to put a car together and would like to know where to best place to go look for information on team entry, rules and regulations and just all around good information.

Best thing you could do would be to list where on earth you are located.

They should maybe tell us where in the Galaxy they are and what rules they'll be working under.
They could be Canajians intending to rally in the USA, they could be USAians intending tomrally in the People's REspublik of Knuckelheadistan and really do they need to list where they will be, you can tell they're that ambitious????


OoC, you're supposed to put a name and an age and a location in the signature thing so that half the whole forum doesn't consist of people guessing where each person is, if they're "of legal age" etc..

But really, what're you planning on building? Though I can warn you now that I can give you 27 reasons to build an XR4Ti for RWD G5 fun, 18.5 reasons for a Subaru Impreza, and 9,289,384 reasons to not build a BMW, Mercedes, Audi, or other fancy pants, poorly designed car.

SEE! that's just an assumption.
There are a decent number of guys up in the North of North Carolina, and they're young, and enthusiastic and helpful too.
That is WHY us old geezers who came up with the requirement for a real
NAME and AGE and LOCATION did it : TO MAKE IT EASIER TO PUT PEOPLE TOGETHER so they can HELP EACH OTHER with adviceand MAKE A SOCIAL NETWORK .

So if you told us anything more, like it's breaking your fingers to write anything,
we could probably say Dooooood you neeed to contact our buddies Matt and Matt aka Mothra and go over and talk to them.

Oh well.

Holding my tongue and not making any smartass comments.

But it is very difficult.

Don't build, buy something built. Make sure spares are available locally. Even if you buy something that needs some work you may save a bunch as opposed to building from scratch. Post specs and pics and we'll give you our opinion. Easy enaugh ?

Rallies are no place for traitors

There are two major bodys, they allow cars built to the other's rules to race so best to figure what rallys you will enter who runs them then build buy to their rulls.

NASA and RA (Rally-America) are the two, both have rules on line - read them esp the car classes.

Decide what class you would like to be in. Go to an event look and learn talk an learn.

Figure out what is fun about the sport for you, it is building something, is it driveing like a mad man or is it winning a season long points deal.

For me it is all about driving as fast as I can, resluts do not matter, finishing does not matter, points do not matter. Fun does so 2wd car as it is more challanging to drive and more fun, also as it is slightly slower a bit safer in some places, however as I was often 2nd fastest overall that is questionable.

There is ever so much more that can be said on this topic.

In the long run reality always wins.

If that NC is North Carolina you are in luck. Quite a few ralliest scattered across the state, a healthy rallyX series in the triangle, and a full stage rally based in Cheraw, SC (look it up on a map). There is a NC based list serve called NC rally contact Anders Green through this forum to subscribe. Most of the events in the SE are sanctioned by NASArallysport so get a copy of their rule book.

Repeating what was said previously about buying a prebuilt car. Drive it, destroy it, then build a car that you like.

You should also get out to some events Rally WV is only a few weeks away and should be a short drive (Several NC based teams are entered).

i'm in fayetteville and it great to hear that there are people close and that there is even a circuit or even just a few races close. i will have to look at my schedule and try to make it out to the next one. where is a good place that i might go to look for a decent use car and what kind of price should i exspect? thanks again for all the help

That is not to far down the road. Check out www.THSCC.com for rallyx schedules, etc. That is a good place to start. So far as looking for cars. SS and rally classified are good as is talking to people.

Hola. As I am just getting started, myself, I thought I would share a neat website I found using Google this afternoon. It's called Lina Racing. Looks like a lot of good rally info coming right out of the Carolinas...

I've been reading up over here for a couple days and thought I might like to join in the shenanigans from time to time. It's all about bringing people with the good taste to like rally racing together, right? (If not, I must have missed the "Rally Anarchy for Dummies" book last time I was at Borders.) :shrug

Very cool. It was nice to look at some kind of number for what it takes to put a rally car together and then run it. Until my overpriced college degree pays off, I'll be sticking to rally-x and volunteering wherever I can in order to build seat time and get my fix.
