BOSCH 180 RALLY LIGHTS
June 30, 2010 09:21PM
Picked these up cheap. Came from an 80's circa 99. what i do know is the were certified in germany and are Driving lamps, i did find a source for the mounts however nothing on replacement lenses. should i keep them for a far fetched stage car? or sell them for gas monies?

to get an idea on the pattern

a bit of detail on the concave nature of the lens.

They look the same as the Bosch 225's I have, but smaller. The 225's are decent lights. Use them till you break them.

keep them, or sell them to me.
they are hard to replace, and AMAZINGLY bright. (similar to the 225)
i've had one fall of my bumper and get crunched by the skidplate, on the way to a twighlight stage after a hurried service.
my other got chipped in the back of the service van.

in the NW, we really don't do much dark driving anymore.

nice get, mine came off an older mercedes.

I was amazed by how bright they are. i plan to run some all night tsd's this season and i think these are overkill. i may go with some hella 500's which are cheap, durable and not soo powerful, if you want them and could put them to use i am sure we could work something out.

Hey I run Cibie Oscar+ lights as extra high beams on one car, and Hella 4000 Compacts on the other. If you use 55w bulbs, switch to low beam before you actually SEE oncoming traffic, and take some care in aiming them you probably won't have a problem. I've run those and/or Hella 3000s for more than a decade on my cars with lousy stock lights and haven't been pulled over for them yet. I have had to remove them at a couple state inspection places, but most places don't really care around here.

I'd run 'em. I might put some of that clear plastic film over the lenses to reduce the chance of them getting dinged by a rock.

I have a set of those in the basement. I think they are going to find their way onto my rally van. They are bright...and look cool. The black housings look better than my pock-marked chrome.

Those are called Bosch "Knick" and you say the K in all languages but Angleski.
Bosch Sweden developed and made them.
H3 bulb, which Bosch developed 9surprisingly)
Knick was the hot thing and when I started I imported piles of them and we could get 8-10 different lenses.

The bigger ones came about 1986 and was creatively named "Stor-Knick" or "Big Knick"

Canadian Tire in People's Respublik of Canuackistan had them available in the mid 80s and with the exchange rate they were like barely 40 each., Stor-Knick a wee bit more.... but that's cause Canajians are all godless communists so they have an affiliation with the Swedes who are also godless communists, for that matter everywhere cold is..

These things go back into the early 60s then with chrome case--thru the 70s, I remember in 70-72 in Sweden 3 across the front of Saab 96s long before I had a clue what rally really was, and then when I was actually interested we'd see 6 of them in groups of thee on the works Quattros.
6! plus the headlights---and the flames....

Gawddam so little night stages now, what a loss.

I picked up 3 pairs of the bigger (9"?) chrome lights from a 4 x 4 shop a few years ago. Paid $60 a pair, new in the box! They work pretty well for the money I spent.

These ARE the biggest that came chrome and that was only till end of the 70s then they went crinkle black.

The "Stor-Knick" never came chrome.

Rallylights.com should have them, if not they could find them for you.

I agree JV, I have had mine on the MB for almost 80k now and have had no issue with using only the stock bottom mount.
