few pictures from today's rallyx
August 27, 2006 06:26PM
Well, that was interesting.

my chariot:

some other machines:

Some piece of shit on course, for those of you who like these winking smiley This guy cleaned house with this thing.

random rut:

The soft surface got torn up fast and there was a few course changes, some tractor/rake action, and lots of scraped bellies and whatnot. I hit some fucking moon crator, lay the whole car on it's belly, and broke the exhaust off right behind the cat. That was a really really loud hour long ride home, not to mention a super noisy last run of the day hahaha.

My loot:

First!

...out of one. That was vaguely insulting, hahahaha. Turns out no one is interested in stock rear wheel drive competition.

I also took the cone killer award (and shirt) with only 8 cones. WTF only 8. I hit 26 last time and didn't get shit. Someone else had 8, but I won because I had an off course too from when I went barreling around a cone on the wrong side. I figure if there's no trees in the way I can't REALLY be off course, right?

Pretty fun I guess. Thing about ralyx is that it's all like 35 miles per hour. I want to go fucking 75 miles per hour. Hell let's go 105 miles per hour. Can't argue with the price though.

HEY!! winking smiley

He cleaned house? That's good to hear. Right now, I'm just hoping to get mine away from the house under it's own power. Remember, for every GVR4 you see kicking ass and taking names, there is another one too pretty to get dirty and two more rotting on jack stands. Like a friend of mine once said, "For every hot chick you see, there is some guy totally sick of her shit." grinning smiley

Looks like fun. I'm hoping to get some of that action in the coming months.

Yea, he was Numero Uno with it.

What's your holdup? Don't matter what you drive at events like this anyway.

I was driving a borrowed CRX and was consistently at least 10 seconds faster than the usual FTD driver. This on a minute long course.

Well, it was a minute for him, for me it was 56, 53, 48 seconds grinning smiley

Gotta love a gutted 1st-gen CRX with an Integra motor (no VTEC, not even a B-series - the grotty ZC piece of junk) and taaaaall Bridgestone mud rally tires.

In slop, FWD is king, since AWD can't put power down and turn at the same time (at least, not very quickly) and RWD can't ever turn or put power down.

Being at least 1000lb lighter helps a lot too smiling smiley

He let me drive his Subaru thingy. My GOD is that thing a heavy pig. Once you finally got it to rotate, it wouldn't stop rotating, and you had to make it rotate in order to turn, but getting it to rotate in the first place was a bitch because you can't get much steering from an AWD on snot-slick clay, especially a 2700lb pig of a car.

But of course this is all for rallycross which has about .01% to do with stage rally.

It's too hot and I've got too much other crap to muddle through before I can make progress on the Galant. If all goes well, it should have an engine in it by Labor Day.

I'd drive the Talon, which is also FWD, but I'd have to put it back up on stock suspension. Right now it's dropped on Eibach Sportlines, which means I can get about two fingers between the tire and fender on 17" wheels/tires. It's my daily now. I think I can wait a while longer to do it right...

...which is AWD. >evil grin<

I have tried awd at rallyx and I can do without it. You're already dogging it around, no need to add more traction.

The gaylant does go good, and beats subarus so I can't complain.

"Easy, Spilner. That's a GVR4. They get traction off the line..."

You guys might as well call me Spilner. My name's Brian, I live in Arizona, I drive a second gen DSM, and I can just about quote TFATF line-for-line. Which reminds me... any of you guys mess around in Photoshop?

To be honest, I don't recall how it finished.

HOWEVER, the guy who drives it is quite good, and i'm sure he had a respectable showing. I went for 2 rides in it, one with the owner and one with Chris Brenton driving, who mr. fiasco knows. That car goes pretty good. It's not like a power house, but he spent a fair amount of time preparing the car - roll cage, etc. I'm not sure if it's actually built with the intention to use for stage rally, but it's pretty rowdy either way. Certinaly has a bit more grab then my bald, rainy-day-parking-lot abused street tires / 175k mile stock suspension car tongue sticking out smiley

Pete, if my car was 2700 pounds....then i'd have stripped 600 out of it hahaha. There is a guy who comes out with a CRX now and again, those are neat cars.

I need to either:
a) get a Merkur running to go piss off the rally-x safety stewards again, or
b) get JV's Saab 96 running and piss off the rally-x safety stewards again (which is going to happen soon if it doesn't get out of my parents' yard smiling smiley).

I think the SCCA likes that I have to work almost every weekend.
