Has anyone here ever done this? Damn shame it's in February. My girlfriend and I are planning to make the drive in March or April. Just won't have the money or the time off before then, unfortunately, but this looks like a kick ass time.

EDIT:
I'm a moron. February 2008. I could make it after all. Sweeeet.

Paul Eklund did an Alcan Rally with Kala navigating. I don't know if it is the same Alcan though.

I would hope that, in fifteen months, I could manage to get the car ready to go. From the pictures I've seen, a cage isn't required and aren't most TSD rallies a bit on the tame side? Vanessa and I are hoping to make the drive this spring regardless, so I dunno. Maybe I'm missing something. tongue sticking out smiley

Well, if imprezas can do it - My Galant can do it. If my Galant can't do it, then shame on me for being a weak mechanic!

Yes. Alcan is just another TSD. I entered a TSD once. I got first place in rally car class (out of three), which would have been near last place (out of 20 some) in the serious class. The only cool part was the blizzard and getting annoyed and passing a bunch of WRX's that we caught up to and leading them all back into town in a Colt because they've didn't know how to drive in white out conditions like I grew up driving in.

Wait until you see me with flammable materials. Give me enough beer and a bottle of lighter fluid and my shoelaces are guaranteed to melt by the end of the night. Give me a beer and a bottle of rubbing alcohol and I am guaranteed to blow fireballs all night, maybe light myself on fire, and get really, really sick from washing down rubbing alcohol with cheap beer.

Dick Furman in Moscow, Id has done it twice I think. The first time with one of the Maytag heirs. BTW, if you off the car its gone until it thaws ( and a rescue is in the 5 large range) ; something to think about. They used a 4wd toyota Turdcell or 4 door Mazdog 4wd 323, I can't remember.

Jerry Hines puts on a fine event and many have done it in all sorts of cars. I have often thought about it, but I do not like driving all that much. 30 min down a stage flat out, well that is fun, but miles and miles across places that can been seen out the window of my plane seem pointless.

If you do make the trip however, Jerry will make it worth the effort.

I still think this would be a cool thing to try. Thanks for the feedback!

You must do it! I've seen it done in a VR4 and they came back alive. I work it now in a Quattro. I have done it in a Golf Mk1(summer) and a 323GTX(winter,left for spring thaw). The drives are long and the TSD sections are reasonable. It is one event where you can drive hard for hours on end, some on frozen rivers. I'll answer any car prep questions or whatever you come up with. I'll buy you a frosty beverage of your choice above the Arctic Circle. Cheers
