Cost of DOM
January 01, 2007 05:03PM
I was just curious as to what you guys have been paying for your DOM tubing.

The last time I bought any was a few years ago and I only paid like $500 for 300 feet of 1.5" .095 tubing. I know it has gone way up since then just wanted to get a basic idea of how much before I start asking for quotes.

I am going to be getting the now required 1.75" .095 for the main part of the cage and 1.5" .095 for the rest.

Thanks

Plan on at least $3.50 ft, maybe closer to $4..

The stuff isn't cheap by any stretch..

We ordered 60 feet of 1.5" and 60 feet of 1.75" per car and it ended up being around $350 delivered per car. Ordered 3 cars worth at once.

Sorry, I don't mean to thread jack but while you're answering the previous question:

Any idea what the price difference is between 1.75 and 1.5? I was considering doing the entire car out of 1.75 so that we'd only have to buy 1 set of dies for the bender, but if the cost difference is enough, it makes sence to get 2 sets and do the car the traditional way. Thanks!

Thanks for the replies.

Hey Grant where did you order yours from. I went through Marmon Keystone the last time. I figure were basically in the same location when it comes to ordering things like this so costs should be the same.

Thanks again,

Jeremy

Yup. Marmon. There are a few guys there though that claim they don't sell DOM so check who you talk with.

Hey Chris

If you wouldn't mind, let me know where you sourced your tubing -- best pricing I've been able to turn up is $4.00 US a foot for 1.75" and I have to go to the states to pick it up and then go through all the customs bs...

I'm hoping to start my cage in February.

Thanks, Ted

Most steel outfits in Mississauga/Brampton were around the same price.

I just called around at the time, and these guys were cheapest by about a dime a foot.

The price does change just about daily though for whatever reason.

Ted,
For all you guys up there in the Toronto area, if you are driving to the US to save a few $$ try Dillsburg Aeroplane works in south central PA. Much less costly; you'll have to figure if the extra drive is costs effective; call for prices at 717-432-4589. I got a batch about 2 months ago; it was actually CDS per the cert's. I got over about 240' of mostly 1.5 and 1.75 x .095 with some .120 wall for just over $700, including freight shipping.

BTW, they get a huge discount on shipping with Old Dominion freight (since they sell so much mild steel and chrom-moly tubing), that it might save you have it shipped to Buffalo to an Old Dominion truck terminal and then pick it up yourself.

Regards,
Mark B.
