Hello. Ive been sitting around and waiting to get some cash to buy up my starter vehicle but an opportunity came up and im wondering if it would work. My friend just bought a 95 mustang 3.6L with a blown headgasket for $550 and I was wondering if I should take it off his hands and rally it?
What do you all think? Only issue is that its an automatic which would be a bitch to convert, but still its possible. |

I know those 3.6s do blow gaskets but they sure hell have some nicer looking heads and ports than many V Fords and I think there is some goodies to wake them up. Don't know how strong the bottom ends are. I did get a recent request from a Fox body Moooset-angst guy asking if JVAB could make real rally struts and I went to a boneyeard to look at the slightly different way they mount them and the answer is yes you can get realk gravel specific struts and dampers. There's some guys near McClean trying to unload really cheap Xratties plural like 4 of them. Here's a ad for 4 Xratties in your sorta area.
XR world, Our local car club had the idea of doing a GRM $2006 project using XR4Ti’s. Unfortunately, the project lost steam and so we have 4 cars that they would like to see go to a better home. Pictures of the cars may be found here: http://www.85xr.com/grm2006.htm They are in various conditions. The red one is gutted and w/o and engine, and the white one has the engine removed. What we’d like to do is find someone that is interested in some or all of them. You could come to the spot, look it over, and make us an offer for what you want. Chances are you’ll get what you offer as long as it’s remotely fair. I’m an XR guy so I know the “value†of this stuff. Feel free to ask any questions. The cars are in Harrisonburg, VA. I’d even be willing to help transport them if they’re not going “too far†(The definition of which would depend on price and distance). My work number is 540-437-3737. Feel free to call or email with any questions. Email will result in the fastest response. Harrisonburg VA, hmmmmmm, I know about 50 people who live there including my brother---I will definitely be making the 2 hour trip this weekend or next if you want someone (with a little rally experience) to go with you to look over what this guy has for sale.
I am right down the street in Arlington.. 703-371-5084 ____________________________________________________________- One. Class -- 2WD www.quantumrallysport.com http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/pages/Quantum-Rally-Sport/281129179600?ref=nf |

Hi Garrett,
The Mustang? Chaep car? Yes. Good rally car? Not the best. I love Mustangs and the like, and rally a Mitsu Starion turbo RWD thing, but can think of a bunch better cars. A lot depends on you mechnical and fabrication skills and the like as to which direction to take. (IMO, the XR4Ti is good if you can do moderate levels of work to a car.) If you miss Josh, then give me shout if you are down this way. I'm about 35 miles south of Harrisonburg. You're welcome to stop in to the house here and see the rally car mangerie, see the rally archives, etc. Also, we need you to come out and work the event at Rally West Virginia in the Elkins WV area; it's Aug 3-4. You'll pick up a lot of good info just seeing things and working with folks. Regards, Mark B. 540-949-7989 |

Well they are flimsey and short travel---but most modern cars are. Most have barely 160mm travel in front suspensions. very short. You know Colin McCleery has 10 years on a essentially unreinforced shell, and unstrengthned read beam, and he's done pretty good. So if a guy didn't mind re-caging now and again, he could just go beat them to death near stock.
