Over at Nasioc,

JV's little buddy is all indignant over Gumball rally style events and drivers while his handler's participate in them.
That's gotta be a conflict, 'eh?

Turn's out the girl they are all pissed off at is hosting a (or more) TV show (s)

http://www.myspace.com/parismodel

and I doubt they'd be filming a bunch of overtly illegal activity anyway.

Just thought I'd mention it.

Interesting.

I'm not sure what to take from browsing that thread. Am I supposed to be upset that another spoiled skank has the world hanging from her teet? Or am I supposed to be upset that, were any of us regular, working class types to engage in such illegal activities on a public road for even a mile or two, we would be locked up and lose our cars forever since we don't have access to upper crust attorneys?

I'm against street racing in any form. Unless it's authorized by the local powers that be, it's illegal and serves to encourage ignorant kids to try similar acts, which results in tighter restrictions on those of us who are trying to legitimately make motorsports available, safe, and affordable for the common man.

Oh well. I think my avatar says it all.

You know I thought I was the only one pissed off with his blatantly, dare we say naked one sided censoring and connected threats when he was "moderating" at SS.com
but seems others, lots of others are also fed up with the non-stop hype.
It struck me as dishonest.

A week or so ago I read some "interview" on a Swedish site where he's slathering the bullshit on pretty thick, and the real kicker that showed me that he knew he was lying thru his teeth was when he answered about numbers in the US Champignonskit "we have about 50-60 cars at the events".

Now this cluck clucking "bad bad, should be discouraged" (why? Because he wasn't in it getting publicity?)

Now I have to conclude he's a mere whore who will , say anything and do anything to fufill his dream to be a full time co-driver. And lie while smiling.
Yep the transformation is complete, he has all the qualities to be the new US Citizen he has just become.

((35 years ago when I worked in Sweden, I really was shocked at the common level of simple, nothing special honesty Swedes showed. They may have been zenophobes ofr racist, but they wouldn't lie or cheat you. Seemed odd after having grown up in the South where people were all smiles but would lie like dogs, cheat you and make elaborate explanations, and were by and large not trustworthy.)

Never let facts get in the way of a good story. winking smiley

2006 RA National Series, consisting of 9 events (XGames excluded):

Average number of people on the start order: 45.7 (although the entry lists averaged 49.3)
Average number of people registered in the national: 26.1

"50-60" certainly seems to exclude National events like Cog (20) and WW (28). There were 5 events that fit the 50+ category.

That does seem to be a good theme for JVL posts.

Anders, I do think if you read the interview, helpfully linked below, you'll see that it's John who's confabulating, in his perpetual dislike for me.

The question asked:
With such large distances [between events], the costs ought to ensure that the championship draws few competitors?

I replied:
Yes, usually about 40-60 cars start [the event]. Of those, maybe 15-20 run each event and do the championship. The majority only compete within their state or region.

Oh, really. Edstrom you're the one that is the world of "reality TV" now.

Here is the actual text, THE QUESTIONS ARE ALL ABOUT THE CHAMPIGNONSKIT, not the event weekend,
EMOTORSP>: Med så stor spridning borde kostnaderna göra att mästerskapet blir litet i antal deltagare?

Literally it says "With so large spread (of the country and events) ought-to-be the costs make that THE CHAMPIONSHIP would be small in numbers of participants?"

EDSTROM- Oftast är det väl en 40-60 ekipage som startar. Av dem är det kanske 15-20 stycken som kommer till varje deltävling och följer mästerskapet. En hel del kör bara inom sin delstat eller region.

EDstrom answered: "Often-est is it a good (well) 40-60 which starts.
Of them maybe 15-20 come to every round and follow the Championship..
A whole bunch drive only in their State of region."

Edstrom don't say I write fanasty.
You want to disagree, then disagree.
You want to call me a liar, then call me a liar.
The interview AND the question asked 1/2 second before was about the Champignonskit, as we all can see from the actual text.

Now in order to not look you were slathering on the bullshit just a bit deeper than it needed to be, you try and cover your embarrassment of getting called on it by
*rediculing and slandering me
* trying to spin further what you have already said
to back up your snide comments that I'm imagining things.

Christian, its both the bullshitting in the interview, and your calling me in essence a liar added on to your obvious to MANY MANY people one sided heavy handed "moderating" over at SS.com that has generated the dislike and contempt for you.
Obvious to many Edstrom.
Your actions and your words.
But I know you don't care, you're on your way to the WRC even if it might be called these days Wannabe Real Championship.

But if you had any honor left, like you were probably raised with and which I thought I heard in your voice when we talked in the past, you'd realise that it is quite a dishonorable thing to do, smearing another like you've just done, just to make yourself look less like a bullshitter.
Because that is becoming what I hear people associate with your name.

Fie! skäms på dig!

I mean look at this, the next question, and look how yopu continue to "keep the Race Face on" and again, avoid answering the question and answering what wasn't asked,

EMOTORSP: Kostnader?
"The costs"

EDSTROM:- Visst är det dyrt att tävla hela serien, speciellt p.g.a. de oerhörda distanserna mellan tävlingarna. En bra privatsatsning går nog på runt 50´000 dollar på ett år.

"Certainly its dear to race the whole series, specially on the grounds of the unheard of distances between the races. A good private try goes prolly for round 50,000 dollars on one year."

Welllllll. Sounds a bit low when ya think that somebody is going to pay somewhere around 7000 to 10,000 in enties and notes alone....but what do I know.

EMOTORSP: Finns det inga prispengar att tävla om som lockar lite extra?
"Is there no prizemoney to race for to entice a little extra?"

Edstrom:
- Vinner man X Games får man det tillbaka direkt så där kan man få en slant tillbaka. Kör man Subaru kan man vinna 3000-3500 dollar per tävling, det hjälper ju en bit på vägen.

"If one wins the X Games you get it back direct, so there can one get chunk of change back. If one drives Subaru can you win 3000-3500 back per race, that helps a bit on the way."

An honest person would have answer direct "No. There's no real prize money to be won, although there is some from Subaru in the two classes which are nearly dead..."

Its spin Christian, and people are so accustomed to spin that most people see or hear spin and they want to spit. Respect for people who spin plummets when people know they're being cynically spun.

But what do you care, you're achieving very nearly your dream.
Nothing, and nobody else matters.

Oh good god John, please do get over the SS.com bit. We've been over it sooooo many times. I moderated your two posts only because I was specifically asked to do so by Jim and Jeff, who had received an email from an advertiser on the site that they felt your posts were over the line. It's not something I particularly relished, but I did it. By my personal preferences, you could have posted whatever you wanted. I know that you and Jeff have made up, so I'm not really sure what the personal animus is, but whatever... Moreover, you know I'm no longer a moderator there, so you can feel free to post there without any concern about my "undue" moderation.

As for everything in the article, the readers can make up their own minds. (If anyone has any further questions, it's clear that both John and I have a sufficient grasp of the language to give you the jist of it.) I think it's pretty clear that I made a clear distinction between the number of entrants in the event (40-60) and the number of competitors who follow the championship (maybe 15-20). And I think it's pretty clear too, that my not mentioning prize money in other classes indicates that there isn't any.

As to whether it's possible to do the full championship for $50,000, I don't really know - it was my best guess for a private effort, but I bet it's within 20% either way of what someone like Matt Johnson, the Duncans, or Kenny Bartram spent last year to run the season. I estimated: $10,000 for fees, $10,000 for tow gas, $20,000 for for car and tow vehicle expenses including race gas, and $10,000 for event expenses. You can tell me where you think I've underestimated.

Cheers,
- Christian

PS: John, 'väl' in the answer regarding the number of starters is a modifier that means 'about.' It doesn't come from 'värde' so there's no need for a 'good' in that sentence. Otherwise, I commend your translation. I'm impressed.

Did some checking on my own because Ed didn't compile the numbers like he used to for SCCA.
I took the results from the top 33 in RA overall (9 points and above) and wrote down the # of events entered:
2 drivers = all 9 events - guess who?
2=8 Matt I /Olson
2=7 Matt J/Kenny
6=6 Dedo/Tanner/Anton/Davis/Moro/Duncan
6=5 ACP/ChrisG/Eric L/Otis/Sans/Lurch
4=4 Pinker/Bottoms/Amy/Kendall
4=3 Wyeth/Jarvis/Pepp maybe more
I checked the top of the individual classes and didn't see anyone not in the top 33 with a good result so I think I have found most of the big players.
That makes 12 drivers who entered 66% of the RA events.
