We are running a fast little car that once the susspesion is worked out will be a finnisher. The b15 platform is easy to build and easy to find, we have the Ser SpecV version but the 2.0 versions has the same motor with a shorter through so it has a higher Revelimeter and simalar axle and control arms as the ser. Panels are cheap, I would know. Parts are out there and the after market is getting caulght up.

Jeremiah,
In R-A you are restricted from starting in an EVO or an STi; the R-A rules say you start in G2 or P, but there are some exceptions, but I'll bet and EVO or STI would not be excepted. In NASA, you can start in what you like. Since all the events in your area switched recently to R-A sanctioning, you need to follow along with R-A rules OR be prepared to drive south to CA nad east to ID for NASA events until you get enough experience so that you will be past the begineer qualificatoin rules for R-A events. Now, having said all that, there is merit in NOT starting in an EVO or STi. As others have said many times, there is a large wad of $$ tied up in just acquring one of those cars, much more to get it ready for rally and then keeping it running in rallies. Most of the high HP car trannies have limited life in rally use so you have that to contend with. Add all the engine goodies and so on, and it is significantly more expensive to rally these cars. This is just an opinion but I think you will be happier with a simpler, less expensive 2WD car. Regards, Mark B. |

Remember, all the great results from ALL the WRC cars comes in cars with fully adjustable camber, CASTOR and toe both front and rear. So shorter than 100" cars can be made to be STABLE at the speeds the WRC averages (around 55mph/90 km/hr-----except Finland and Sweden) which is pretty close to what most of us average on US roads, and the average is even higher in most Canajian events. So IF YOU DON'T HAVE fully adjustable settings, particularly CASTOR, the we can get stability on the straights by the longer wheelbases of cars like the Legacy, Galant, Xratty, and Volvo 240. Sure the shorter cars like the Impreza feel more nimble, but most of us normal human beings can benefit from the stability on the starights and the little bit slower reactions entering corners at a higher speed MORE than the marginally quicker response. ALL the shorter cars like Escort Cossie, Impreza, and Lancer (and the WRC Corolla) were attempts to optimise the cars for ASPHALT events with lower average speeds and when the WRC cars had insane amount of grip from all those differentials. in short, there can be big advantages for the privateer in a slightly longer car. George Doganis and I have been running one in CRS's P-Stock class for the last 2 years with much success. The car needed ongoing development but we've got a great setup now and the car is very reliable. If you want speed, we saw a true 115mph on the rally odo on a 1600 meter straight at Desert Storm. Thats fast enough thank you.

Dude, you said it right: Never guessed. Don't guess. Don't assume. Work from the premise "That worked good" and then track down exactly why it worked good. Work backwards from results to general principals rather than inch forward from fragmentary ideas, whims and desires towards some possibly erroneous conclusion. COPY SUCCESS, don't discover you don't know enough. Choose a car you have information for and can AFFORD TO RUN that is PROVEN OK. Xratty 102.7" wheelbase Volvo 240 104.1", 103.9" ??
