Apparently the premium is about 1% of the declared value. It's cover the car while in storage, in service, and in transit (non-event I presume). That way if your car gets stolen out of your shop, off your trailer, etc. you are covered to an amount you specified it to be worth. Sounds of interest to me as I spend over $10K building a car that the insurance companies believe to have a worth of around $500.

So what if you have like a $30000 race car? You pay $3k per year to insure it? That seems a little steep considering you could insure an off the lot $30000 car for like 1/5th that price.

1% of $30,000 is $300.
