Thanks for all the great advice guys. I mean a real sincere thanks. It's truly amazing to be able to have access to a sounding board from some people that I have long admired from afar. Guys who have been doing this thing from so long ago that they have forgotten more than I think I'll ever know about this. But what I do know is:
1- I'm gonna be a good dad. Maybe a great dad. My daughter may do some of the things that I couldn't. That's the best thing. Viva Italia! 2- I'm going to be involved in rally. Something happened along the way and it is in me forever and I can't get it out. I don't want to get it out. 3- I don't think I'm gonna sell my car. It's not perfect but it's damn good. (just needs some JVL stupenders instead of the hot shits). I could sell it, build a group 2 car but as Chris pointed out I think I can make this thing go fast enough for me for about the same money. Atleast I own it already. 4- I may not rally this year and I'm okay with that. When I do I'm not gonna be there to chase some meaningless championship. I'm gonna have FUN racing with people I like. I'm gonna DANCE with the car. I like thinking about that one. 5-If I can't rally I'm going to help others to get there. God knows they deserve it. Everyone should have moments like I've had. Beautiful moments. Euphoric moments. Times where it seemed that everything was right in the world because you nailed apex after apex in a constant blur of whirling gravel and dust with only the sound of gravel against the floorboards and your compare beside you. Sorry for the sentimentality, and thanks, dave Gone fishing Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 06/02/2007 01:15PM by david amor. |

Hate to be late but that was what I was thinking. And - If you sell all the Turbo shit to kiddies and run a 2.2 or 2.5NA, you'll: keep tires longer break fewer gears, clutches, axles etc. Not start on fire as often. Never wear out brakes. Use cheap gas and less of it. Get some of your money back. Turbos are a kick in the ass but cause 80% of the DNFs and 80% of the costs. |

I don't mean not enough to win but not enough to have fun. It's like going from crack back to smoking pot. I guess I'm not ready to give up the crack. Gone fishing |

Have you considered finding a partner in the rally venture? Perhaps you have a friend who is interested in rally, but lacks the means to make his ow ride happen? What if you were to approach a friend and offer to split the costs with him down the middle so that you could both go out and play. You could do like Zach and Shea do down here in CRS and take turns driving/co-driving. You might only drive *half* the stages at the events you attend, but only pay *half the price* while getting to have *all* the fun.

Travis Pastrana bought a private car so we could go play/practice in Canada. It's a 2002 2.5RS (GD chassis). We're running it in Open class. He could probably afford a WRX, but it's perfectly fine. It doesn't go so fast down the straights, but it's still plenty fun in the corners. Also, it runs on pump gas, and the gearbox should last about 150,000 stage miles. All that said, I don't think it makes much sense to sell the car and build another. That seems like a losing proposition. I think working, co-driving, or just doing fewer events seems like the best economic decision. - Christian Christian Edstrom New York, NY Age: 30 |

Grant,
When I build my 240, it'll be with an aim to win. I'm going to be looking for a proper co-driver! Nah, seriously, that'd be lots of fun, but Travis would get bored with my driving pretty quick I think. I'm hearing rumours of a Gelsomino/Edstrom re-appearance, however. - Christian Christian Edstrom New York, NY Age: 30 |

David, keep the car if you can afford to do so, and not lose your marriage and or child over it. Rally cars come and go..or keep the rally car..
