Black Rocket tires coming stateside...

A new shop in Northern Colorado is going to be carrying them. Pre-order is available already.

Thanks for the plug Grant. We have an agreement to be their sole US distributor. Not sure about Canada or Mexico. Our first order of tires left Finland on a boat this morning. Unfortunately, it will take about 4 weeks to reach us. So far the test tires we have are performing very well. Only negative is that the tires have a more flexible feel than a Pirelli or Yokohama. Definitely not a run-flat tire.

so here is a question, i have forester rims that i want to use for rally application. Stock tire size is 205-70-15. Will it be a bad idea to get 185 or 195 rally tires

Can you measure the width of your rim? (i.e. 6", 6.5", 7", etc)

I thought they already had a North American distributor...

Yeah but between marriage, kids, re-fis, 9/11, the former regime's utter lack of economic policies the US dollar to Euro exchange rate began a massive change.
When I was originally negotiating and was said to be Offcial North American distributor-- both USA and Canada--- it would take USD88 to buy 100 Euros..

Within months of getting set to do a large order, like 100-150 tires initially, worldwide I saw US dollar going down ....and the trend continued steadily as people with brains saw that it was unsustainable to keep doing tax revenue reductions while same time ratcheting up "defense" spending and starting an illegal unjustified war in Iraq....and then pouring billions --with no accounting--into "rebuilding" Iraq..

It was a good call for me and my investor partner---the guy who owns this forum---as withing less than a year the exchange rate was USD128 to 100 Euro, then continued up to around USD140 to 100 Euro..
So from 1 Euro costing 0.88 it went to 1 euro costing $1.40 or 52 cents change for 1 Euro
Prices were the same in Euros, the cost skyrocketed and we were not sure if people would buy them at the higher price when there was increasing presence of Asian tires distributed by people with far more capital they could sit on...the were Falken, Hankook, Silverstone etc.

We had brought in to Seattle several test loads by air (as well as hundreds to Maine for local ice racing where they worked phenomenally well) to see what the tires were like, and they worked better than anything but a proper Michelin 14/62 x 15, and were just a bit heavier...

But what can you do with limited capital to tie up?

The intended pricing structure was going to be substantially less than new, a major hunk less as we know the costs for transport direct in to Seattle---no expensive land transport to some mid continent location adding extra costs...and the aim as everything I do is lower price for "pretty damn good" functionality so people could afford to buy more.

If they price is held low enough that there is a real incentive, these should be an excellent alternative to the cynically priced Michelins and D-macks.

There should be no problem with 185 or 195 rally tires fitting a 6" rim. The 15/65-15 size BR 33 is basically a 195. The 17/65-15 is closer to a 205. We actually are testing the BR 44s on 6" rims without any problems.

You intending to bring in skinnier 15"s like 14/62?
And for the poor guys with little cars 14s?

The 14/62s did not show up as available from Black Rocket. Nether did 175/70R15. The BR 33 15/65-15s we have for testing measure 25.50" dia x 6.25" tread width.
We did order 1 set of 13" and 4 sets of 14" tires. We do have 165/65R13 77Q YOKOHAMA ADVAN A035 in stock - but they are Soft compound.
If we pre-sale a not-ordered size or if over half of incoming tire size is pre-ordered, we will create a new order and get them on their way.
Here is what we have in our first order.
155R13 BR 33 - Summer Gravel Rally Tire
175/70R14 BR 22 - Summer Gravel Rally Tire
14" BR 44 - Summer Gravel Rally Tire
185/65R15 BR 22 - Summer Gravel Rally Tire
195/65R15 BR 22 - Summer Gravel Rally Tire
15/65-15 BR 33 - Summer Gravel Rally Tire
17/65-15 BR 44 - Summer Gravel Rally Tire
We have no idea how fast these tires will sell. The only way to guarantee you get what you want is to pre-order. That way we can make sure we will have that size in stock.

What are the specs on the 195/65-15 tire size-wise?

Re-check records the 185/65 x 15 is the eqivalent of Michelin 14/62 x 15... so all you fools under 200 bhp at the wheels---there's your tire..

The BR's actually have a bit wider thread, 160mm vs 145mm of the Michelins which is a good thing for someone like me.

Black Rocket 33 we got for testing weights 29.55 lbs, is labeled both 15/65-15 and 195/65R15 and roughly measures 25.50" diameter x 6.25" at the tread.
