Customs charges on an order from the UK
September 05, 2013 11:40AM
I am looking at purchasing some parts from Demon Tweeks in the UK. Their pricing and shipping are good. How do I figure out what the customs charges will be? John and Grant I think you guys may know. Anyone else? Thanks!

Robert.

I used to just budget at 5% but sometimes it was less, sometimes more.

When things come by post its USPS that does everything.
And they just make up shit.
Duty is 2.3% on new or used "car parts" (and less on lights, like 1.4%, some things are a little different but whatever)
USPS often charges nothing, sometimes weird figures, high or low but never 2.3%
It costs what it costs.

IF over a certain amount then there must be a "Formal Entry"
Or if brought n for re-sale. Then you get fucked up your Teutonic arseschlauch

I've bought many items from several directions, never had to pay customs. One time I enquired of a more-knowledgable soul than I, and was informed if the value was below $2600 US, it essentially got a pass.

Explained a lot, nothing I bought was over $2200.

This is just my own experience, yours (and my future) experience may vary. One might try looking on the US Customs website.....

ACP has had parts sent here for the rally cars in the past. A couple times we got a bill several months later from either FedEx or UPS (memory thing again) for customs duties.

That was usually my experience. 2-3 months later I'd get a bill.

coming to canada via ups or fedex is killer, but it's not the duty, it's the "brokerage" fee. I spent $90 in brokerage on a $350 climbing belt. actual duty was something like $20...
