I'm guessing Langbein and Mulvey are also DNF since they are missing the last three stage scores.
Makes it: 24 cars finish, 3 with JVAB Soooper Bitchin Suspenders...ca 12.5% 41% DNF rate... any ideas why? Results not in the universally acceptable format? 84% of cars started on something OTHER that JVAB-SBS :-) Looks like 4 stages dropped for the cars, 2 for bikes. I had an awesome weekend. We finished the race and had a blast doing it. If there was a podium for amount of fun had, we would have been on it. Can’t complain for my first gravel rally. Saturday was real slick and I spent more time sideways than I was trying to but man was it fun. Even passed a few people. Gave one team a tow out of the ditch. The windshield fog sucked. We got lost on virtually every transit somehow but managed to show up on time. Sorry if you were following us. It’s a good thing they cancelled the last couple stages Saturday night because while pulling into our campsite the alternator mount gave it up, broke both lower mounting tabs, and we lost charge. Probably would have caused a dnf otherwise. After fixing it with a stick and some tape we decided to try and head over to service early the next morning to find somebody to weld it.
We ran late but found somebody willing to help us weld it if need be. Because I didn’t think we had the time to fix it, I risked it and ran the stick figuring I’d take it easy over the jumps and if it didn’t hold up we would dnf, go back and get it welded, and then finish whatever was left. I melted the vacuum line off the waste gate on both of the turn around stages. Pretty thankful for the over boost cut. First time I thought it was a fluke but the second time I realized we didn’t have a cool off drive and that’s what was doing it. Drove both those stages pretty much half throttle. The stick held until about 30 seconds into the last stage. My lights were flickering and things were funny but we finished the stage AND managed to make it back to service. I was supper pumped the stick made it just long enough. Because it ran so late we had to pack up and get out of there as soon as possible, next time we are taking the next day off from work as that was a long weekend. I drove pretty conservative. I don’t think the slick conditions favored rwd. There was one section on day 2 where on a straightaway I got into quite the tank slapper…would have been embarrassing to have crashed on the straight. Haha. I look forward to being able to trust the notes. The suspension worked good, thanks John. You need to put up a suspension maintenance thread so people know how to care for their boingers. Thanks to everyone else who helped out and thanks especially to everyone who volunteered!!! We wouldn’t be racing without you!!!!! |
