Black Rocket Tires - New & Improved
September 24, 2013 01:14AM
Even though we have had a lot of positive feedback on the Black Rocket tires we felt they could be better. We have been working with Black Rocket to improve their retreaded tires - specifically for the US market. Buyers liked the firm sidewalls of the BR 44 but wanted a harder rubber compound. So Black Rocket (aka Keskipinta Ltd.) agreed to make a BR 22 tire (symmetrical pattern) on the BR 44 casing using a harder rubber compound. So we ordered several sets of both 185/65-15 and 195/65-15 sizes today. We also talked them into making some BR 22 in 175/70-14 with the same hard rubber compound. We hope to see them all in about a month. We will post when they arrive. Meanwhile, we have a few sets of the original BR 22, along with some BR 33 and BR 44 tires, left that we will continue to discount.
By the way, unless you speak or write Finnish, don't ask us why they cannot make a harder compound BR 33 or BR 44 tire.

Those are retreads, yeah? So they probably only have that compound in the BR22 pattern...

Yes, they are retreads. The only complaint we have with the retreaded tires is the tread rubber is on the soft side. We have NOT heard of any of the tire treads separating from the casing which is what you may worry about happening with retreads.
From what I can tell they can only make the harder compound tires in the BR 22. Not in the BR 44 for sure.

Better to call these "remould" rather than re-tread which tradionally has mean a cap bonded on.. There they buff off everything and do a bead to bead new mould on the rally tire casing...it's not like they're just moulding a nice pattern on some old street car 185/65 flexy casing..

I thought that they only use Michelins as cores.

Since the entire tire appears to have been shaved down and new sidewall marking made, we cannot tell the original manufacturer of the casing/cores. I can say on the BR 44 there are 3 sidewall reinforcement rings which are similar to what we see on Pirellis and the 4 rings on Yokohama we have seen.

Has anyone been thrashing these in thier open class cars on stage or close too stage speed racing. I know on your website you state they are not recommended for open class cars...however...inquiring minds want to know bc they are easy to get form you and dont cost as much as BFG's.
