Pacific Forest Rally

Well, since nobody else is talking about it...

Dave Clark w/ Sean in the co-driver's seat is leading the 2wd regional entrants so far! He's all smiles (is it ever any different?) so I hope everything keeps going well for him. I love seeing that Merkur, so well prepped.

Matt and Dan Bobyn, regular competitors in the WCRC are running only 5 seconds behind. They are now running Eric Grochowski's mk3 Golf and are loving it. No problems for them so far afaik.

Unfortunately a whole bunch of 2wd competitors dropped out last night (Nelson bmw, hartl vw). Also sounds like the dowels had some issues in their lancer possibly, which is making the 2wd national championship quite interesting.

Cars are currently out at dillard and missezula, first car into service @~1pm. Probably won't be many updates until then due to the distance away from hq that the stages are (plus those silly mountains).

Building a Merkur

Great rally, great roads, and great organizers! Dave and I had a blast, led 2wd OA at the end of Friday, but just could not match the times set early on Saturday. By the end of the day we were always within a few seconds of their times. Dave is getting much quicker in the Merkur, with more consistent notes he could have matched that VW.

That's why I built a Merkur. They are capable of winning and require less work and maintenance. Ideally...

Well sort the loom or whatever it is and put it back together.

Good event and it was great to meet a few more Rally Anarchists face to face.

Good drive by the ever-smiley Dave Clark to win the open 2wd class in the Friday Regional by 4.6 seconds on a road with a couple of really mean gotchas. (Thank the RallyWest electronic timing gear, that's less than the margin of error for 4 stages)

37% DNF (Did Not Finish) rate.
(Someone started a rumour that DNF notation in a logbook meant Damn Nice Finish in Canada)

Disappointing entry count for the event.

Seemed few liked the new Coldwater Ranch stage after recce, but opinions changed after running it... Great job on finding a new (90km/h average speed for the top guys) stage, building a partnership with a charity in the process and bringing some new excitement into the event!

Better snag a screen-shot before the powers-that-be "fix" it.

Everybody described it to me after recce (they all disliked it), I was confused because it sounded awesome. Most still did not like the finish though even after racing it, it sounded challenging (so I hope it is still there next year as I like a challenge)!

The VW being driven by the Bobyn's should be interesting. This was their first competitive event (they had one test day in it), and Matt said that the way the car has been setup by Eric is phenomenal (amazing front end grip were his words). Hope to see them continue to improve their speed as time goes on.

Yah, the finish was brutal, complicated by the fact it was poorly marked in recce. But there is an easy fix for it.
Nicki says they are looking at more roads in the area so it isn't as much of a hike for a single stage... even though I thought it was worth it.
