WRC Rally Mexico 2014
December 11, 2013 02:37PM

John and Mark Huebbe and Simon and Kieran Wright are excited to announce their return to Rally Mexico in March 2014.

USUK Racing's Frankenpreza and Huebbe RallyeSport's Super Beetle (El Vocho) will be on their way to Léon in Guanajuato from St. Louis in late February. Rally organizers have indicated that they'll provide documentation to assist in border crossings as well as a possible federal escort depending on the number and timing of transportation vehicles.

Preliminary competitor documentation is available and our current understanding is that the entry fee for US teams will be $1,200. Sounds expensive? How about if 8 nights of hotel accommodation is included?

Huebbe RallyeSport and USUK Racing competed at WRC Rally Mexico in 2012 and had an amazing experience, vowing to return someday. You can read all about USUK Racing's 2012 adventure here. We're planning to have even more fun.

This is an event that should be on every north american rallyist's bucket list.

So who else is coming along?

What is the fuel situation for the "Rally America" portion of WRC Mexico? Can you bring your own supply into the country or do you have to source it there? And if sourcing it there, what are the options?

Thanks in advance!!

I'm pretty sure you'd have trouble bringing fuel in. For those cars running on pump gas the state owned Pemex stations are abundant. Several are designated by the rally as optional fueling stations. There is one remote fuel stop to where you can have the organizers transport some fuel for you. We didn't need it in the Focus. I vaguely recall there being some rule on additives (the Focus was tuned for 100) but we just kept its usage under the radar. ie don't hop out of the car at the gas station to add it. Also, you don't fuel the car yourself at the Pemex stations. And there was some mechanism for issuing fuel vouchers to teams - I guess so they didn't have to carry around cash or deal with credit cards.

Thank you Simon! Could the WRC spec fuel also be purchased, or not available to the "regional" guys?

Yep. We and the Huebbes are very disappointed. I have not yet seen or heard of the official reasons for canning it.

Boo.

Disappointed is an understatement. John and I had already spent tons of money and time doing re-prep on the car. It's currently sitting as a caged shell. Inspection of all major components was priority #1. We're now looking at events outside the mid-west and a possible trip into Canuckastan.

Umm... if I wanted to lose 100hp I'd try and run Pikes Peak. I'll stick to the semi-hard pack gravel surfaces. smiling smiley

I guess I could bring my XR650 and run moto. cool smiley
