I like John in real life. His internet persona and diatribe need a little reduction, but I'm busy enough and adult enough to scroll right past it. Maybe I'm the #1 sheeple since I like him, have bought most of everything he's offered me, have sent a ton of friends and customers to him for suspension and will continue to do so, and my rally car is a Merkur.

Hm, nope, pretty much this way in real life. Spoiled would be inaccurate though, I've worked/bought/paid for everything in my life except for some tuition and books for two years (bless my parents hearts). So where you'd get that from I have no idea.

But yes, this much of an asshole in real life. As John is so adament about with real names, why have real names if you have fake persona's? And anybody I've talked to about John in real life has said he's basically the same in real life. At one point, I wanted to meet him just to see for myself, but now, I realize he has zero to offer besides being a zany prick.

And John doesn't do anything special that anyone else with some fabrication skillz couldn't do. He has low-ish prices for a ok product. Its not like his stuff is lighting the world on fire (just like the Merkur sitting in the garage, eh oh! since we are getting digs in at this time) :p

AWD being easier than 2WD
Depends a lot on HP ...

I went from 110 2WD (crank maybe 75 Wheel) and i was able to win my little piddly class most rallies. when ever someone showed up with a good final drive i got spanked. if my car had a better final drive at the time, i still would have lost but it would have been a closer race.. LOL

now i have 165-180? HP (125 wheel) and AWD .

and its harder to drive , near the limits of the car, than it ever used to be.

buts Its much easier to place higher overall
its much easier to beat my old stage times .

driving even "what i think is close" to the limit is much harder now, and seems a whole new level of bat shit crazy.

Previously i could never spin my tires, except on stage start before adding an lsd. (and i did prescott in the rain - clay!!)

now, i can still NEVER spin my tires.


so , from my limited perspective, having never been able to spin the tires of a FWD car in on gravel, and still not able to spin my tires.. Grip isn't really an issue or the point.

Its a different set of "in class" competitors , closer to overalls and all that jazz (still only 1 OA, and that was as AWD !)



now if i was comparing 250 HP cars 2wd to Awd i think my own experience would be quite a bit different.

But to add to topic; I find AWD easier to drive but I feel more challenged running in a FF car. RWD for me is only fun for shits and giggles.

Reason behind not feeling as challenged in a AWD layout is because you can just pitch the nose and rock and roll through most stuff; horsepower allowing. While I can see being fast in a AWD car of equal horsepower to a FF car I wouldn't feel as accomplished with myself. So I guess I would run a AWD car to try to win races while running a FF car to actually get some skills more refined.

FF makes me feel like I have to be more concentrated on what I'm doing and focus a lot more on my footwork since you can't pitch and go like a AWD or RWD car.

But I'll be hard pressed to find something more fun then a RWD car and some gravel or mud for sure.

Hey, rallycross is better then nothing for getting my feet wet till I can afford to actually stage! Dirt is dirt and fun is fun no matter what kind of racing you participate in, IMO.

You ain't wrong. Anytime you can run flat out, even in first or second gear and come away with a smile it was a good day. While RallyX doesn't afford the "OMG" massive adrenalin rush that rally does, it requires a great deal of skill, technique and concentration . A one or two second mistake in rally is usually no big deal, in RallyX it is usually disasterous.

I have decided that stuff like Gran Tourismo or Forza can teach someone to memorize a course very quickly.

I loved going to a rallycross after a few years of stage rally. Just like autocross, it requires a different set of skills than stage rally, which presents a whole new set of challenges. I actually had more fun at rallycross than I do at stage rally, you get to play around with cars and hang out with awesome people, all with minimal stress/cost.

Holy shit has this thread gotten derailed...

Back on topic - FRS/BRZ is awesome.

I wasn't denigrating rallycrossing, one of the best motorsports out there in my opinion.
I was insinuating that your comments sound like what I would have said when my experience was limited to minimal dirt time in one car and lots of video games. Also known as very little experience...

Toyota Motorsport completed a productive four days with its new GT86 CS-R3 on Rallye Deutschland, taking a major step forward in the car's development.

A prototype of TMG's new rear-wheel-drive rally car took part in the 1300km event as a zero, or safety, car with former female world rally champion Isolde Holderied at the wheel.

The priority throughout the four days was to record as many kilometres as possible to evaluate the initial specifications and find improvements. Good reliability and Holderied's skilful driving in occasionally tricky conditions helped the team achieve its targets.

“I enjoyed the CS-R3 a lot - with rear-wheel drive, it is a lot of fun,” Holderied reported, “It has a good balance and felt really nice to drive on all different types of stage.

“The reaction from people to me being here with the CS-R3 has been incredible. There are so many people with a big interest in Toyota's rally history and they were really happy to see TMG back at a rally again. The long Panzerplatte stage in front of a big crowd on Saturday was particularly special. I have been there many times and I like it a lot. We had so much fun pushing the CS-R3; I really enjoyed it.”

Experience gained on Rallye Deutschland will contribute to finalising specifications of the CS-R3 kit which will be delivered to customers in the first quarter of 2015, after homologation in the FIA's R3 category is achieved.

“Overall it has been a very positive experience for us and an important step in the development of the CS-R3,” Nico Ehlert, principal engineer customer motorsport, commented, “The car on Rallye Deutschland was a first prototype so we expected some challenges, but I am pleased to say the weekend was smoother than expected.

“Being in an environment where time is limited and the pressure is high gave us the chance to understand not only the performance of the car but also its operational needs. We have found a few areas to improve both in terms of technical performance and service park handling.

Reaction from fans and competitors alike was overwhelmingly positive, with significant interest in both the car and the new HJS TMG CS-R3 Trophy, which will run within the 2015 German Rally Championship.

“As well as a positive weekend from a technical point of view, it was also great to see how the CS-R3 has been received,” Ehlert continued, “Fans were really happy to have a rear-wheel-drive car back in rally and the customer interest has been very encouraging. We can look forward to seeing plenty of CS-R3 cars on stages around Europe and further afield next year.”
