Noob rally computer question

I found out why my computer wasnt working. It had the universal speedo probe and i had bypassed that when i installed the new speedo cable. Not knowing what it was for exactly. The old pseedo had twisted off and left a small piece jammed in the probe. I was going to put the computer in my truck.

1. can I use a wheel probe in place of the speedo?
2. which wheel should i be placing the probe on or should i use a probe on the driveshaft?


reason im asking is i see on the pinout plug-ins for 2 probes and a speedo.

Wheel probe proximity sender has been the smart choice since they became available back in the early 80s...only hard thing is fabbing some bracket to hold it and at least 4 stud heads to look at within 1/4"

What rally computer do you have?

It is best to put a probe on an un-driven wheel. It lessens any wheel spin you will have. Although nowadays with notes, an accurate odo on stage is becoming less and less necessary (unless you get lost in the notes)

In the Golf I and II that means a bit of a pain due to the way the hub and disc is a 1 piece thing and the stud heads are deep down in the assembly..
Of course the whole stock rear disc set up is a giant POS and I've shown the way to ditch that crap and mod a drum into a nice hub---then the stud heads are easy access, and rotor choice is enhanced and mounting a probe is a snap.

Just for the hell of it. i was going to see if i could condition the wife to possible navigator while driving to NC.

I know someone posted this somewhere, due to me asking this somewhere. But im losing my mind and cant find it anywhere.

I thought someone told me I could use the signal wire from the ODO and tap into the signal wire the truck uses for its ODO. Is this true? With helping our in Sandblast, Id like to be more helpful. Step one is getting this Terratrip in there. Then the HAM.

i have used a terra trip vss adapter in my mirage in years past, but i don't see it listed anymore

if I remember right, most rally odos need some sort of divider/amp/??? adapter when being driven from a Vehicle Speed Sensor (vss) like you're asking.

My Monit came (from ebay) with one that I wired into a VSS line on my 4Runner for sweep/volunteer usage, works great.

looks like maybe you need a terratrip "Dual Sensor Interface"?

Yes, you need the 'prescaler' box to use VSS signal with a terrortrip (or brantz)

Wheel sensor on an un-driven wheel is best if you can do it.

I'm now using a GPS based sensor on my Coralba which makes it a bit more portable and easy to install.

Sweep trucks with working odos are a nice thing to have.
